Monkfish pd blower cam anyone run one ?
Discussion
Hi guys
Just wondered if anyone has this cam with a pd blower , I really need to know thoughts on driveability just off idle . Cam spec not available ?
I have a BTR stg 3 at the moment and before and after tuning have low vacuum (cam) ? and a high idle which was raised to help the very bad flat spot just off idle .
Not a nice drive in stop start situations ,so if it is the cam and not any other issues I will pull it out and change it , just don't want to do it again and again lol.
Was told by the cam supplier they had not had one customer come back to them with any issues .
Tuner tells me he did a car very similar to my setup with the monkfish supercharger cam and it made near same numbers as mine with great street manners ,so really just checking if people can verify that.
Trying to be aware off vac leaks , throttle body (LS2) and my 95lb FIC injectors as culprits .
TVS2300 LS6 C5 VETTE.
Any help would be great .
Cheers.

Reason for similar numbers is the blower only delivers a fixed amount of air per RPM.
So different cams will just change boost pressure rather than airflow!?
That being the case you might as well run the smallest cam that ticks the boxes as it will drive off idle best.
I seem to recall posting in the Vette forum that the cam you ID first up would be too large and have off idle issues..

Hmm, I see I didn't comment on the Stg3 at the time you asked. Personally Id have gone with the stg1.
That 23x/24x is massive for an LS1
Im sure your large injectors are not helping, but yes a smaller cam is definitely a good idea.
I still think the spec I suggested first up will be where you want to be

It does have decent duration, but that wide LSA should keep overlap down. What size is the engine ?That 23x/24x is massive for an LS1

And just how low, is low vacuum ?
A high idle could be as much a cause of low vacuum, or a symptom of a problem.
What sort of rpm's are you idling at ?
I'd think most issues would be tuning related, sometimes idle etc can be tricky, but the cam certainly isnt wild by any means.
But a smaller cam just makes everything easier
Not really any overlap. But IVC will be probably quite late reducing cranking compression..
Might help explain dead spot, but Id agree tune should be reviewed. Timing will be quite a bit off OEM around there.
Injector small pulse will be quite large too Id imagine meaning AFR is wonky and clunky with the 95lb injectors.
Lots of things to consider. All fun.
Who is tuning it?

95lb shouldnt be that difficult, again the mild cam will help with that.Might help explain dead spot, but Id agree tune should be reviewed. Timing will be quite a bit off OEM around there.

I'm basically running 1300cc injectors at the minute ( 2 x 660's firing as a pair ) and with the GT9 cam idle is great at 900rpm.
Hey ,I need to come in here more often , Great bunch of guys .
Stevie , 383 ci , will check but idle vac around 12 hg . will check again and see what it drops to
when pulling away with as little throttle as poss.
10% Overdriven damper , 34 / 30 tooth rear pulley ,at 15psi according to my gauge .
People told me 95lb injectors were needed , I have 63lbs that came with the blower so might put those back in if I change the cam ,which I hope wont result in another full tune £££ but will have
to suck that one up again lol.
Ringram , thanks bud yep I know I should have just returned that first cam and told em to send me what I asked for , wouldn't be having this convo now eh. I told you who tuner was , I feel confident with his knowledge and ability.
Basically tuner tells me this cam is bad , cam supplier tells me its good and should have no issues.
Hence enter you guys

I
I forgot who you said
Anyway,
Its hard to say anything specific without logs. But off boost your cranking compression isnt going to be high.
You could get a compression test and see what it says. Low static, plus late IVC = low dynamic compression..
In effect you have -ve ovcerlap, so a smaller cam will just have an earlier IVC and lower LSA.
A 222/230-115 is similar in overlap for example and with an earlier IVC will have a higher dynamic compression..
Im just guessing without logs and more data so probably not helping much

thats pretty much i plan to use, 222/230 114lsa
