Heads, headers and intake on order
Discussion
My 4.100" stroked short engine has finally been assembled, so I've bitten the bullet and ordered:
GM Performance LS3 CNC ported heads (#88958758)
FAST LSXR (LS3) intake manifold
Cable operated 102mm FAST throttle body
Pacesetter headers 4-1 1.75" to a 3" collector
The headers are for a Pontiac GTO, so will need modifying. I figured someone had to find out how hard it was to change US headers for use on RHD cars. They cost £200 + import duties, so worth a punt.
Now the question is, do I fit the old LS2 heads and FAST LSXR (LS2) manifold to that LS1 that's waiting to go in my son's 2004 VXR or flog them and leave the motor stock?
Any bets on what it'll make on the engine dyno (hopefully before Christmas)?
PS No forced induction - just cubes

You should get £1k for the LS2 heads and fast if you wanted to.
Otherwise chuck them on the LS1 with a suitable 22x cam.
What spec is the NA setup?
What block are you running that crank in, as its a long stroke for a stock shortblock
Also what spec cam is in the LS3 stroker? Plus what bore?
Then Ill make a dyno guess. Also auto or manual?

BTW if its a 416 stroker, then a review of engine masters setups will show that most around that cubes with around 350cfm and virtually all cams are in the 24x range.
(ie) 240/246-108 or similar. So loads of nice overlap for narrow power and high peak torque for the competition redline of 6500.
So I would vote for max effort for a cam with at least 0.650 lift and duration low 24x
BTW you need to beat 502rwhp at SRR to beat mine mate. Which AFAIK is highest HP LS NA on SRR to date. (Inlcudes Vipers too BTW and Z06's)

If you're going to put the intake and heads on the LS1 then definitely also put in a cam. Nice LS3 bits btw, be interested to know if the stroking justifies the LS3 FAST.
You know I'm after your FAST, and I think Antony Pugh would snap up those heads, threads like this set the vultures circling

Old LS2 motor was the basis for the build. Brief was something reliable and emissions friendly, so no exotic cam profile.
Yes it's around 416cu and no, my target wasn't to beat you Richard
Tempting to leave the LS1 as a stock motor, which would suit fitting it into a 2004 VXR. I'm sure that the vultures would be pleased too...

What is the cam then?Need to know that for any ideas on power. But if its a pathetic one you wont do much more than 400rwhp.
I hope its at least 22x if not 23x on the intake side and has 8* split?
CAM SPEC!?
You can go into the 22x range and still have no overlap in the cam!
It sounds girly. At least it will have good torque. Not sure why you got chunky heads and intake only to put a small cam in. Kind of defeats the purpose IMO.
Hopefully you are running at least 0.600+ lift anyway. You can close lobe centers up to raise power.
Though I cant talk with my current 22x cam in the 440!
It will be nice to drive anyway mate, thats probably an important consideration by the sounds.
Are you running stock 2" choked exhaust as well and OEM air intake?
This build of yours is making me feel a bit queezy

No air filter yet - open to suggestions
No exhaust yet. I have a couple of stainless systems in the garage. One's a LS2 Monaro Wortec. The other is a 2.xx inch almost straight through job for an 2004 Monaro.
Be a shame to cut up the Wortec system, but I don't have a 2005 model Monaro and it's just sitting there...
I'll find out what spec the cam is.

Headers have arrived. Very nice bit of kit, especially for the money...

Fingers crossed they don't need much hacking to make them fit.
