HSV GTS VT/II #16 on my driveway
Discussion
In a desperate bid to have as many undrivable HSVs on my driveway as a certain Mr.Clay, I've just picked up HSV GTS VT/II number 16. Used to belong to Dennis from Derby, Soren from MK and then Greg from Brighton. Came with a big folder full of receipts for everything from exhausts and APs to rip shifters and remaps.
Getting it off the transporter was fun. Not. We ended up removing the front bumper. The car now has pride of place in front of the garage in which is stored an engineless 2004 VXR. As can be expected, Mrs.ArnieVXR is considering becoming a Miss again.
The car passed its MOT in October, just before it lunched the engine. Sad, because it was known at the time that the big ends needed sorting. I'm guessing when the heads come off, it'll reveal that all I have is the basis for a fancy coffee table. I do have a low miles LS1 sitting in a crate in my garage, so all is not lost.
It's too dark for pictures, so more to follow. A quick look round revealed:
1. More muck inside than you can shake a stick at
2. Peeling window tints
3. Rust on the rear wheelarch, just behind the offside door (common rot zone)
4. Stone chips galore
5. A dead battery
6. Flakey paint on the wing mirrors
7. Plenty of kerb rash.
8. All the buttons missing off the keys
All in all not too bad.
The good points include the HSV pen knife and tyre gauge, full set of APs, the adjustable coil overs, sports exhaust, tube headers (original?), rip shifter, reasonably clean/unmarked leather interior, double DIN full screen Kenwood and (apparently) a quick rack.
So, tomorrow will be a day of sponges, shampoo and hoovering. Followed by a brutally honest decision on its future...

In the interests of smoothing the waters with Mrs.ArnieVXR, I spent today taking her around London for posh food, sight-seeing and treats. The car hasn't been touched...
Had a look at it in the gloom at the end if the day. Still looks good enough to save. I'll not be trying too hard with the original specification. I priced a new leather gear knob. $899
I'm wondering what it'd take to beat Gareth's HSV. Given my driver skills are a bit lacking, I'm guessing more power. What about a big Whipple

Get an early Monaro V8 leather one. ie pre the UK one. About a 2002 to 2003 version. It doesn't have the silver top on it.
Looks like this but it is leather. Think they were about $80 when I last bought one.
