Why do we love these cars?
Discussion
Due to personal circumstances my Monaro has been in dry storage for over a year and had become a faded memory and little more than a figure on a balance sheet.
With that in mind I taxed it and stuck an M.O.T on it with the intention to sell.
Well having tested the market it was obvious it is not the time to sell the car, so having taxed, insured and stuck an M.O.T on it I thought I’d just drive it as a daily.
I am totally smitten with the car and now just cannot ever see me selling it unless I absolutely have to. I was stopped at traffic lights this evening, fully up to temp with the car breathing clouds of condensation while all the other cars with their miniscule engines producing none, rocking at idle and it was just fantastic! I pulled away at low revs and the car sounded awesome. Like the Ferrari there is no reason to drive these cars quickly. The sense of occasion is so much more than that.
I’ve done around 500 miles since putting it back on the road and it has reminded me just how brilliant these cars are. Yes they are not the last word in sophistication but who cares?
My Monaro has a personality, my Ferrari has soul, and my Audi S3 has competence. I think the perfect combination has been achieved.
