Guess they have to adapt, shame though. When BMW et al were racing it didn't kill it off, and some of those light cars fly incredibly well when punted by a V8!
I like the opening statement in http://www.v8supercars.com.au/news/championship/v8... "V8 Supercars to maintain high-octane, dynamic racing platform – fast, loud and aggressive".

Mr.Warburton. What relevance does V8 Supercars have on the "World climate of motorsports"?
It's an Australian icon that has a huge following FFS. I don't see a lack of fans at any of the races, and where else could you run a Bathurst in the world?
No mate, what you've just done, like GM and Ford, is to give it all up to the bloody Germans (and their V8 piped sound systems) again.
You are going to end up with an amorphous automotive mix which will end up having NO relevance to the climate of world motorsport and crowds to match just like DTM and the like did. You might as well just go out and buy some Duracells now. Might just have to go and see one of the last meetings on the mount now, two wasn't enough.

It won't be called V8 Supercars - it'll just be Supercars.
The reality is that they are all the same chassis now that COTF is being used. All these changes would allow is for the use of a 6 or 4 cylinder engine instead of a V8. They'll control engine output etc so the cars stay evenly matched and it still comes down to driver skill/ability to tune the chassis.
I expect Holden will still run a V8 - as long as there is a race engine available from the US.
If this brings in more manufacturers, and maintains the level of racing they have today, then it is a good thing.

I thought that the big German manufacturers all made high performance V8 models? Quite a mix too, with NA, supercharged and turbo-charged options. The Yanks are still committed to producing V8 variants for now. Infact, it's only natively produced Aussie V8s that are on the way out (which means this forum will suffer a bit). So not too much to be sad about.
Opening up the race series could be problematic if they set the formula too low. The character of the race could easily disappear if a bunch of screaming four pots are allowed to join in.
