So, I dropped the engine off for fitting and was given a tour of all the bad bits of my latest basket case purchase.

Sitting comfortably? Here we go...

Engine knocks (knew that)
Clutch is done for (the new motor has one though)
Spigot bearing gone (literally)
Gearbox - we'll see if it's usable after fitting a new spigot bearing.
Fuel and brake lines - MOTed by a blind man
PAS pipes rotten (as always)
Aircon radiator stuffed (might have a used spare)
Prop centre - rubber donut furbar (have a spare used prop)
Engine mounts - p*ssed their oil out (have some used spares)
Front chassis rails - patched on one side, rotting on the other
One cat pipe rotted through on a weld

I think many of the bits will last TBH. I didn't buy it to fully restore it, just drive. When it rolls out of Monkfish most of the list will have been sorted. The chassis rails will bother me, as I hate rot in a car. Didn't someone here change their rails? Be interested to find out who did it and what it cost.

Plus side is the stainless cat back, adjustable shocks, APs, quick shifter and lovely low mileage CV8 engine smile

Had this on my watch list purely out of interest on what it went for, should be a cracking car when finished!

Bump - anyone remember who changed their chassis rails?

PS more Commodores at Monkfish than Monaros. Two GTS (including mine) and a GTS-R.

I had this worry on mine for a while but was very minor, so easily dealt with, however I know Neil on here knew someone who can do this I'm sure., Send him a PM and see if he can help.

Mine were not good. Best hat could be done for little money is take the rot out and plate it over. It's probably stronger than original.

So, having dropped off engine mounts and a propshaft at MF on Sunday, they've managed to get the old girl up and running again.

Only to find the battery is now just lead and acid (so no electricity) and the radiator is beyond the 'drop an egg in it' trick.

Fingers crossed for a working HSV for Christmas. I've been good this year...honest angel
