I had occasion to use the standard, hidden-in-the-boot-floor, wheel brace last week. (I had suffered a rip in the tyre, on the M4). The wheel brace supplied is rubbish, and apparently made of putty. Application of effort on a torqued up wheel nut caused the wheel brace to flare out to the extent that I couldn't use it to remove any wheel nuts at all. By an amazing stroke of luck a mobile tyre replacement operative pulled into the services, and parked alongside me just as this happened. He kindly loosened all the wheel nuts on the wheel I needed to change and, when he'd finished tyre rectification on another gentlemans's Audi A6, he returned to help ensure the wheel nuts were torqued to specification. Bristol is a long drive from Heston at 50mph in the middle of the night, but it would have been a lot longer if I'd also have to wait for the RAC so I'll be packing a decent wheel brace from now on.

I had the same problem with my wrench, except my one was made of cheese ! Cut it down and welded a decent socket on to the end of it = sorted, luckily I made my discovery on the drive, glad I didn't find out the hard way yikes

hmmm, one too look out for then, thanks for the warning !

I carry a 3ft breaker bar and socket in my other car as the ridiculous 10" long wheel brace has zero leverage at all rolleyes May have to do the same for the VXR8 it seems.

cool

The VE one is accceptable, My old VTII SS had an ok one too. My 2003 SV8, same vintage as the CV8s sent to the UK was rubbish, I removed it from the car and put something else in there instead.

Without even the slightest intention of being insulting, I need to say the following.

I had to read the original post at least a few times to figure out what the fellow member was saying. Seems that in the 250 years we have been apart, our usage of one common language has taken slightly different paths.

On a different note, premium gas [petrol] is $3.00/gallon now in NYC, and up to $1.00 less than this in states with fewer taxes. Regular is even cheaper. Makes me want to get a 1977 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham Coupe [5,200 pound weight and 440 cubic inch engine] that sometimes comes up on ebay.

hehe

I've just re-read the post, and would have probably used a different order in the first sentence - or at least a couple of commas would help.

I blame it on the Pilgrim Fathers, and their English West Country dialect.

As George Bernard Shaw said "England and America are two countries, separated by one language" wink

Well said.

In high school, we were introduced to William Shakespeare. Modern English, my butt. Each student needed to purchase a book to explain whatever play we were attempting to read.
Then there was Geoffrey Chaucer. He could have been from Planet Vulcan.
Jonathan Swift I actually liked. Easy to understand contemporary English and very entertaining.

Try it again now. smile

Not sure I understand that West Country comment though, because that is exactly the dialect I use.

Spooky coincidence. The Pilgrim Fathers, who settled in the Boston area were Puritans from Plymouth.

I am now watching the premier episode of 'Great British Baking Show' on PBS [public-funded TV network], and am drooling. PBS has been bringing your shows here since 1960 or so. Monty Python, The Prisoner, The Saint, Downton Abbey, The Avengers, etc., etc., etc., and oddly, one of my faves- 'Keeping Up Appearances'.

Great stuff.
