Right, before anyone says it, I've had a quick search and I've got a few thoughts, but not going to let my thoughts taint your responses...
So..

Drove 150 miles yesterday on the motorway, with no problems, very nice.
Got onto the icy side roads and booted it over a humped bridge... instantly got the check engine light and then limp mode. That's a cracker that is. 20 mph and a lumpy V8.
Great. I thought. I've bought a Friday special.
frown

After parking up and sifting thru various threads on tinternet, I started it back up and it was out of limp mode, but still check engine.
Drove fine, gauges all ok.
Parked up at destination and left it.
A few hours later went for a quick drive, no lights, no warnings, no nothing. Great!!!! smile

Today, after a very cold night, started it up and got ABS fault, then check engine light.

Turned engine off, left it 5 mins and tried again. No ABS fault, but check engine light. Car still running beautifully...
Drove 150 miles home. Parked up.

Hour later, had to pop to shops, no lights on, all's back to normal.

I'm assuming I'll get another fault in the morning....

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have just bought the car, so if its owt that needs replacing it will be going back....

Just to add, on the journey home, the V meter slowly changed between, approx. 13.9 and 14.4V very slowly. but did it several times. Is this normal?
When I went to the shops for the last drive, it shot up to 14.5 straight away... and stayed there.

I think your battery could be the cause. Check that the terminals are tight, as coming over the bridge may have loosened one of them.

Apart from that, the CEL could be a loose O2 sensor in the exhaust.

Battery most likely. How old is it?

Ermmm... will check in the morning. So are we confident that a deteriorating battery can cause these faults?

I will put a V meter across the battery in the morning, without turning the engine on and see what I get..

it could be anything but your cheapest and best option in this weather is eurocarparts and a new battery. Bosch. Yes modern ecu's, bcm's, bdsm's are all touchy when it comes to power but -ve and +ve what is expected

its like back when applo 12 was hit by lightening, fked it up for a few minutes. Likewise a failing battery unable to provide the required amps does the same - though it could then be the alternator, the earth, the flange valve nipple bleed. Battery, cheap simple replacement job done unless it reoccurs, in that case we will provide stock answer 1288 "take it to MF or WP"

I don't think a ECU cares where it's juice comes from, Your alternator will quite happily keep your engine running and all auxillerys . Even if you take out the battery whist engine is running, the battery is primarily for the high voltage start up to turn the starter motor.and is only charging whilst engine is running as the coils are powered by the alternator.

Could be wrong of course but don't think so.

Have jump started my LS3 and drove a distance to charge the battery and display showed no faults and drove. Completely fine.your fault sounds more of a faulty connection elsewhere in the electrical system

Alternator's an alternator though, isn't it?
Mines reading 14.4 v with a little variance. ..

As long as the engine aint gonna blow up, I'll see what happens. ..

Thats very kind but I'm in Kidderminster. .. nr brum.

I didnt check thrle V this morning, but didnt have any lights on. Had a good drive around and no problems. Noticed at one point battery V was 15V so, a variance of over a Volt in the last few days. .. is this normal to have a varying V output? Or as Harry elluded to, have I got a premature alt problem?

New to vxr8 ownership so still trying to gen up on known faults...

Check all the connections firstly.
The battery must be a silver type, normal lead acid won't charge properly.
Lastly the charging cycle is odd, it's not uncommon for the voltage to fluctuate like that. So I don't think what you are seeing is unusual.
( Harry's is a Monaro, different beast, unless he's referring to his Camaros of course)
