Hi,
Anyone have an idea how loud in decibels a VXR8 with modified exhaust might be?

It has got a WP Supercar + decat + Proflow long tubes (which admittedly made the exhaust quieter than standard extractors).

Thinking of going to Castlecombe for my 30th, but they say there is a 100db noise limit. I might remember wrong, but I think I might be in a region of 116db?

Is the noise limit a static test or drive by limit?

If it's a static test then you might be close, perhaps just under. If it’s drive by I'd say you'd be ok.

Problem is I don't believe there is any decibel meter calibration that goes on at these places, and so you might find that the person testing your vehicle at one venue gives a different reading to other venues. Quite annoying frown

According to the site its taken 0.5m from the exhaust at 4,500 RPM. It also says you can drop by and have it tested before signing up for a track day if you are unsure.

It is quite a trek from London just to have the decibels checked.

Are the iPhone decibelometers worth anything other than fun factor?

It's the same trek to find your car is too loud on the day. I think you have little hope at Castle Combe if it's 100 decibels that day. You might scrape a 105 day at some tracks.

Thanks Tony,
Do you reckon MOT stations can measure decibels?

Castle Combe is one of the quietest tracks in the country, along with Goodwood. I wouldn't chance it. A noisy day at Donington would probably be a better idea.

Why do they introduce noise limitations during events like these? Don't want to ps off the neighbours?

MOT places just see how much their windows rattle in my experience.

If you ever visited Chippenham you'd understand why the fuss about noise at Castle Combe. There are tracks that have days for louder cars and I'm sure ARAF can better advise you than me. I just see the problems GT3 owners have with Castle Combe and a few other tracks.

I presume you can't change over any of the system? Some of the TVR and GT3 guys fit a decibel killer on the end.

I guess the quickest would be to swap back boxes to non-Supercar ones. Fairly straight forward and quick, but I have not got any spare boxes. Decibel killers? I shall look into that. Thanks.

The problem with Castle Combe as I understand it is that the local village has been taken over by people who don't like their afternoon tea being spoilt by the sounds of a race track and all complain about the noise. But then i've only heard one side of the story smile
