Vxr8 auto problem.

I had the dreaded contact dealer, engine warning light and some very odd behaviour from the auto box this AM
Wouldn't change gear, showed on the dash that it was in park even though it wasn't and I was driving and wouldn't select manual shift
After I stopped and turned everything off it went back to normal. So far
I do get random alerts on oil or check engine but they are nothing normally
Is this what limp mode is lime for an auto?

Had a similar problem in my old Omega, had the codes read and it had a fault in the gearbox module.
Was told it was about £250 to replace.
Did it drive along and when you put your foot on the accelerator nothing happened, just bimbled along on tickover?

When I had the gearbox problem it was intermitent, turning the ignition of and turning it back on would clear it but the problem would recur.It got worse as time passed.
I can only suggest you get the codes read and see if the problem is with the gearbox, I had the problem six years ago so it'd probably cost a bit more than I said it was going to cost.
I never got the problem fixed chopped the Omega for my VXR8.

Same thing happened to me yesterday! Drove about 10 miles although stuck in traffic for a bit and then it decided it wanted to "contact dealer" and select its own gear! Seemed to stay in 3rd until I stopped and restarted then drove fine, although with the engine light on. However, I think my battery is on the way out as the volt meter was moving all the time and it decided to shut down the air con and cigarette lighter down...Went off half way down there

Checked the codes and cleared them and nothings come back, but I've ordered a new battery today so we'll see what happens.
