Hi All
The Escort LS1 has now blown up the standard cossie diff - no suprise. So now building one with a Gripper diff, but need to know what the standard gearbox ratios are for the 04 CV8 to help me pick the correct ratio.
What do you want to do, cruise or go?The Escort LS1 has now blown up the standard cossie diff - no suprise. So now building one with a Gripper diff, but need to know what the standard gearbox ratios are for the 04 CV8 to help me pick the correct ratio.
Cruise 3.46, go 3.91 in between 3.73
You would be far better off in the long run to junk the Cossie diff , immaterial if its a 7" or 7.5" as it will s**t itself again
Best thing to do is use a mk3 Supra , good lsd standard , pretty bomb proof & good ratios available
G284 = 4.30:1 4-pinion 8.0" pre-89 N/A Diff (no-LSD, USA Only)
G282 = 4.30:1 2-pinion 8.0" 89+ N/A Diff (no-LSD, USA Only)
G285 = 4.30:1 4-pinion 8.0" N/A Diff (with-LSD)
G315 = 3.91:1 4-pinion 8.0" pre-89 Turbo Diff (with-LSD)
G305 = 3.73:1 4-pinion 8.0" 89+ Turbo Diff (with-LSD)
Adaptors available for ford frames as well & shafts

Thanks for the info folk.
I have considered the supra diff but I have heard some bad reports. I would need the early plate type but with a later ratio. Fitting it would just be a fabrication job - just like fitting the cossie was into the mk2 shell. But if I go for the cossie with a gripper I get the correct ratio and a life time promise! I know the Gripper is expensive but they loose next to nowt if I need to sell it on.
But if someone has a cheap supra unit for sale!

MK Motorsport sells kits to install the Supra diff in place of a Sierra diff, so presumably that kit would make fitment into your car easier.I have considered the supra diff but I have heard some bad reports. Although I'd think a gripper in a 7.5" with a relatively lightweight chassis should survive quite well.
Especially if your existing CWP is already 7.5" and you're just putting the gripper into it.
Given vehicle weight and power etc. 3.3 does sound rather low ?
I'd doubt a Supra diff would ever be that low given their application.
There will be more threads here on the topic though

I would agree that 3.9 should be better for ultimate acceleration but as the table of speeds in gears shows there is a huge jump from 4 to 5 so I has hoping to not use 5 if possible and it would also make 1st more usable. But I may just go for the 3.9 supra and see how much of the drop off is reduced between 4 and 5. First would become redundant.

So you're trying to optimise for drag racing, or other ?I guess you're using small tyres ?
Are you looking an easy swap, or prepared to do work ?
ie Ford 8.8" IRS you can get in 3.27 ( I run this ratio )
Or lots of BMW diffs available ? Some of them have tall diffs, often because they strangely run a 1:1 5th or 6th gear.
