For anyone in the North West looking for an alternative to AAS/Wortec (who is a tight Northener, or doesn't want to travel 3+ hours), here are a few pics of a CV8 catback exhaust by JP Exhausts in Macclesfield.

http://www.jpexhausts.co.uk/

The request was for no droning and not ridiculously loud - it's just about perfect in that repsect.

Cost with an X-pipe was £720 including VAT. The quality is spot-on and the service was faultless. Well pleased.

Nice, sounds good too cool

Although the saving isn't massive compared to AAS' system wink

Had JP do mine last year as well.

Been happy with it, should sound pretty good once my headers go on. Will be getting them to do sports cats.

That was definitely one of the factors. I rang AAS in October and they were talking of a slot in Jan/Feb. They quoted £900+ for a catback with an x-pipe, which is getting a bit close to Wortec money. They wanted the car for 1-2 days, and they're about 3 1/2 hours away from me.

I had a few local suggestions, but having spoken to JP in December, they said it was a good time as they really got busy in Jan with work for the forthcoming racing season. I figured they wouldn't get racers bringing them business if they were crap. They have CNC mandrel-bending machines & laser-cutting facilities on site - no welding up of bought-in bends.

The guy I spoke to was the guy who built and fitted the system, and he listened to exactly what I was after sound-wise (and delivered it). It would have been nice to go louder, but I had to think of the neighbours, etc! With the recent forum chat of police attention, I'm glad I didn't go too loud.

Think mine has cost about £900 in total from JP, but I had it done twice. It sounded great. Then I ended up going back and asking them to just fit a pair of glass packs basically. I wanted more noise, still want more now. Which is where the headers come in, I may end up having the old mufflers refitted if need be.

It's the standard facelift CV8 rear bumper (and very nice it is too IMO).

Keep us informed Wozza. I reckon it won't be long before I start thinking about headers & cats!

That wasn't the stipulation/reasoning in the OP.
Sometimes you have to pay/wait for quality cool Afterall, there is a reason they have such a long lead time wink

That much is absolutely true; sometimes quality takes time and you have to wait. I know that AAS have a very good reputation in that respect. Conversely, a speedy turn-around does not necessarily equate to reduced quality. Production capacity and engineering efficiency count for a lot. I wouldn't want anyone to dismiss this company because they're not AAS or Wortec!

To be fair JP have a really good reputation as well. They do lots of stuff for the TVR guys. A lot of their exhausts get rebranded and packaged as an off the shelf system.

+ 1

There was a Ford GT in there when I had mine done - the exhaust system was a piece of art! Also, life warranty and the garages I went to all commented on the quality of the welds and craftsmanship. I'm sure other places are just as good - but suggestng a long waiting list trumps a rapid turnaround could sound a bit dismissive. One could equally argue that this is an indication of rework required. Personally, reckon JP is up there with the best so no need to travel across the country if you need an exhaust for your Monaro. It's a question of practicability.

And the more HSVs they do, the better they will get!

JP put an exhaust on a TVR 350i for me many years ago. I was really pleased with the exhaust, price & service.

I've been toying with the idea of getting some headers/cats to compliment my cat-back, so I contacted JP again. I wasn't expecting the reply I got:

We wouldn’t be able to do cats on yours with it being 2007 as it needs type approved cats putting in by law , any car registered 2001 or after needs type approval . As for the manifolds its just something
We don’t do , I would try some websites in the USA I believe there is someone doing them over there pretty good price too. Thanks.

confused
Anyone got the number for AAS irked or a set of 5.7 VXR shorties for sale?! scratchchin

2004 cat forward doesn't fit 2005 cat back, so VXR shorties won't fit your exhaust.

The headers from the U.S. are good quality and very cheap, but need modifying to clear the steering column on the other side. Try an ebay.com search for 2005 Pontiac GTO. OBX make good kit.

The type approval laws for cats only apply to vehicles that meet full EU type approval, not sure about the VXR8 but the Monaro doesn't meet full approval & got through via low volume production regs.
