Exhaust cut outs vs back box delete

I/we are loving the new VXR8. The mrs loves the "sleeper" status and the nice quiet exhaust. She didn't like the Wortec on the Ro as it was always "'kin noisy" especially first thing in a morning.
However, at anything other than full chat, I might as well be driving a 4 pot motor as the V8 is extremely quiet, and as you know, driving at WOT/ full chat all the time is expensive on the wallet and the potential points on your licence....
So, How do I make it a little bit more "lively" at fuller throttle openings but still quite refined at bumbling around town speeds?
I was hoping a pair of cut outs by the rear silencers would be suitable, but am getting nervous that most folks don't work that well in the long term. If you can tell me differently then please do.
Or a back box delete.
Will this add too much resonance/boom though?
I don't like the twin pea shooters as supplied by VX so I want to change the tips any way to so big ovals, so might as well explore some more options whilst the car's on the 4 post lift....
Any advice is welcome.

Hi John,I too found the stock exhaust lacked the V8 soundtrack and fitted a Walkinshaw late last summer, this tends to be rather noisy, especially with an auto. BTW will be looking to change this sometime, if anyone wants to contact me :-)
I too wondered about cut-outs on the stock and would be interested to hear opinions and if anyone has tried this?

I've also popped some 75mm chrome sleeves over the aluminium ends, which look better.
I also had the centre box and resonators cut out, and replaced with a kissing pipe.
With the cutouts closed, it's whisper quiet - nearly as quiet as a standard car, with no droning.
Oddly, with the cutouts open, there's still no droning, but it's a lot louder. If you want to know how loud, take your rear boxes off, and go for a short drive. It's still quieter than you'd think.

Does that add much moise or just aid performance?The car is quick enough. Its my mrs' daily drove to the railway station and my weekend toy. So we want the best of both worlds. She won't appreciate me making it "noisy" all the time.
So I need a switch, just for me, for weekends!
Can anyone recco uk based suppliers or are the ones above that good?

I drive a hilux pick up during the week70 mph is a target not a limit.;)
The 8 has plenty for me as it is! If it was my daily drive then yes I might go power seeking. As it stands, all I want is a nice growl.

There is a possible third option!!! I've got a full Milltek system on mine and it's still really quiet. I took the boxes off to see what baffles are in, and was shocked to find none! I don't know how a pair of straight through boxes are so effective. However over the next week or so I'm going to play about sleeving them! I'm thinking of sleeving the full length but with around a 1" slot cut the full length of the sleeve pipe just to allow some silencing to take the edge off. The best bit is it's cheap and you can play about with different length sleeves etc depending how loud you want it. Very easy to do with mine but I'm not sure what's in the standard boxes so it might not be so easy.
Also AAS in Newcastle a very highly recommended for exhaust mods including custom systems and bypass valves if that's any help?

That would be our Ute - and prior to the kissing pipe, the rear boxes had been replaced with straight through pipes that droned. Thanks Araf,I'm quite keen on the cut-outs idea. My Mrs (and I suspect some of the neighbours too) doesn't like the sound of the Walkinshaw I've on there now.
Mind you, a guy came up beside me in a traffic queue this evening opened his window and gave me thumbs up :-)

You can link both motors to one controller box, but it struggles, so I have them on independent switches and controllers.
What you can't see clearly in the pictures, is that the controller boxes have a male connector, as do the motors - but the extension lead is male to female. I got around this by removing the short leads on the motors, cutting the male end off the extension leads, and soldering the extension leads to the motors (and then covering them in silicone sealant to keep the weather out). A bit of a pain, but when a pair costs about £150, or about a third of the cost of the Badlandz ones we had on the VXR8, then you can live with the hassle.
My controller boxes are in the rear quarter of the pickup bed, but you could have them somewhere in the boot.
