There's just one screw to remove in the cubby hole forward of the shifter. Then it's a case of gently prising out the console, not forgetting to disconnect the window switches etc.
Once it's all free, all that's left to do is pull firmly on the knob. It'll be stiff but with a good tug it comes off quite easy.

Can't believe I wrote that!There's one screw that holds it in under here (it's actually already removed in this picture, but it's at the back of this little cubby area)

You can just see the screw hole here, once that's out, you start prizing it open from the arm rest cubby, just lift and it un clips. Here you can see it partially unclipped (although the armrest is back down on top of it for some reason)

The wires are connectors for windows etc. are easily unclipped, the wire here still connected is for the Wortec switchable exhaust.

Little leather boot just lifts out of the way
