I am thinking about getting a supercharger fitted to my E3, and was wondering on peoples thoughts about second hand supercharger and fitting and remap against either the fish or walkinshaw new price with fitting?
My view is that the latest generation of superchargers work better than earlier ones, and as you have an LS3, a lot of the older superchargers won't fit anyway. Bite the bullet, if you want a supercharger.

Hi m8,
I deleted it as the title had a spelling error.

And decided it was just a question i could have just left it, however now you have put it back up, so be it. smile

Just the 6k price tag puts me off somewhat.

I can understand that, but superchargers do tend to add value to the car, whereas fitting a cam does not. A supercharger doesn't seem to affect the emissions as much either.

Ringram would question the claim, but some owners with superchargers report slightly better fuel consumption (though that's not the reason for having one wink ).

The one thing that puts me off a supercharger is the cost, it's certainly not from a lack of wanting one.
I had been circling around a cam instead as it's a lot cheaper for approx the same results.

the only result that is the same to a degree....is your wallet becomes lighter.

Unless the supercharger install was diabolically bad, there is no comparison whatsoever with the gains from a supercharger and a cam swap.

Not even close.

It's not just the SC you have to factor in.

You also need to consider a clutch and possibly fuel system.

And I think it's been shown time and time again, a cammed car can quite happily keep up with a SC'd car until silly sppeds, therefore, day to day driving, imo, you won't notice the difference.

SC's = Willy waving once or twice a year on a track/runway and pub numbers.

I've now done both and to be honest, much prefer my NA set up thumbup

Day to day is where you'll see the biggest gains, largely as most use a Rootes style blower which will offer more low rpm torque than any cam swap ever will.

Sorry to hijack but when talking Monaro which is the best route to go for improved acceleration during general day to day driving? Not bothered about BHP figures or track times just say 0-100 (70 biggrin) acceleration as beyond that I'll rarely venture.

I thought that if you just want quicker acceleration without increasing power, the changing the dif was they way forward?

I am sure that someone more knowledgable will be able to elaborate on what you need.

Diff - yes yes

Makes a good improvement for those with less power, every gear feels more urgent.

Yes, CV8, so step up from 3.46 to 3.9 diff. I won't be chasing top speeds and unlikely to get a cam or s/c and just want the extra usability, so suits me fine.

You pays your money and takes your choice. The s/c set up is a lot more money, the cam is cheaper. You could of course consider a used s/c but these are rare as I've found out. With the cam you may also get the nice sounding idle as well, but my understanding of the latest s/c is that they don't whine like the older ones, unless you add more gubbins to them which is more ££.
