So an extra 80ish bhp (and launch control) might be enough to get 3.5.

Theory is that the engine was always good for 400hp, but Audi held it back. They're quite good at that: With a few simple mods the TTRS runs 0-60 quicker than the Audi R8 (v8 and v10). It also runs eleven second quarters.
I'd say that with a good 4WD system and the thick end of 500hp, you could pull a sub-four second 0-60 time. That's what the old Mitsubishi Evo FQ400 used to do. The reason why you can't do that in a Monaro is traction.
