Joined some old and new driving buddies yesterday for another run up north. Most were going for a few days - myself and the Evora owner only managed the Saturday however. (I had a family first communion to attend today). We got e best of th weather however - the gods were kind.

Roads still slightly damp when the alarm went off at 05:45 (FFS) but tarmac was all dry soon after, and not a drop of rain all day.

Great mix of cars, including an M6 Gran Coupe that I wasn't aware was coming. I've always wondered who would bother when they cost so much more than the F10 M5, but it was rather fab. Nice to have something heavier than the VXR8 in the group, and it therefore made an interesting comparison.

Brake discs that made the VXR8 dustbin lids look tiny - simply hoooge 6-pots on the front, but measly single-pot sliding calipers on the rear?? Bit muted beside mine, but sounded gurgly enough when I could hear it. Beautiful interior, fantastic stance, and I could have gazed at the carbon double-bubble roof all day long.

Faster than mine too (std LS3 with Orssom OTRCAI and magnaflow cat back only) with an extra 125bhp (at least) and smartypants gearbox you'd expect that. But how much faster? :? Hard to say really, but I'd imagine a scenario where th M6 was following a few car lengths behind and we both floored it at around 60 for an overtake. If I redlined mine in 3rd (which would be 98clicks), and quickly snatched 4th before reapplying the hammer, then I'd imagine it would probably come cruising past me as I hit around 125 with my foot still planted. Will need to wait 'til we can get to an autobahn or a runway to see how accurate that theoretical scenario might prove!

They're obviously hard to see though as a Yeti decided to pull out and overtake whilst the M6GC was already executing an overtake on him. The M6 had his nose in front at this point, but the dozey Skoda came within 5cm of taking him out. Scarey!

I particularly enjoyed chasing a hard-driven 996.1 GT3 for many lightly-trafficked miles. Lovely to see it shuffling under load due to surface imperfections, and great sounds. Regular driving buddy was following me in his Evora on this section and I think he could have gone quicker, but every time I thought I'd let him past he'd dropped back to chase me down again....

I also particularly enjoyed hearing the V10 (Audi) R8 (with aftermarket pipes) under load. What. A. Noize. cool

Great run out, but Very frustrating run back due to a road closure, and subsequent very heavy traffic on the diverted route. It wasn't completely joyless, but the dull bits outweighed the funtime. frown

A few hastily grabbed snaps - would be nice to set things up better, but when there's driven' to be done.....

Sounds like a lot of fun. Always thought the M6 brakes were rather small though...
