What tyre do folks rate as second best after Michelin Pilot Super Sport?

I can't get any MPSS from anywhere in the size I need (275/30/20 97Y). I've even had a very helpful fella at one UK wide auto company speak with their Michelin rep about them. They tell me that Michelin have none in the UK or France, but they will have made more by the end of August!

Cheers,
Paul.

Won't these fit, and offer a better solution if you have MPSS on the front?

285/30 will throw out the speedo (most likely), and don't forget MPSS 285's will be significantly wider than their quote size, more likely 290+ MM so the risk of rubbing is high.

Indeed, 285's fitted no problems, they even look a little stretched ? reckon I could have gone 295 or possible 305 without any issues.

Plus side is, the 20" forged SV wheels aren't reverse fit tyres thumbup

I don't want to change the tyre size. I'm expecting some high speed German autobahn fun next month and I don't want to change the radial circumference in anyway.

Thinking of going either Bridgestone Potenza S001 or Pirelli P Zero - any thoughts?? I'm pushing out north of 650bhp and these are for the rear. I drive in wet and dry conditions, 6 or 7 days per week.

Only 0.9% higher gearing in theory, so nothing in it. Speedo would probably still under-read slightly.

What's the quickest you've driven (on a private road/track of course) with the 285's on?

fitted 285 35 19 on mine and speedo difference is very minor so not a problem, they also fitted fine with no rubbing even when i tried 5mm spacers

They were only fitted Saturday so used only within legal speed limits smile

Plenty of others have fitted slightly wider tyres on stock rims and have survived Thunder Road, VMax etc

Didn't think you'd be able to find 275's in MPSS, I looked for ages !!

Compared the 285 MPSS against the 275 Bridgestones that came off, there was hardly anything in it !

Have you used an on-line calculator to work these out?

Had 285 and 245 P Zero rear tyres on my car, not anyway as good as the MPSS. Much harder and took a long time to warm up and offer grip, and not as good in the wet.

Yep, same sized wheel, offset etc, just different width tyres.

As you can see, there's naff all in it.

Bear in mind Paul that a tyre will lose nearly 6mm radius (in theory) as you go from new (circa 8mm tread) to fully worn (circa 2mm tread), which is nearly 2% difference.

Just to put into context the 0.9% gearing increase you'd get from fitting 285/30/20.

I agree with that.

Paul, stop being a sissy and get the 285s ordered. They will be absolutely fine - even at autobahn speeds.
