Just had an exhaust blow in my centre box fixed (thanks Stick) which has now made a new noise more obvious!
I initially thought it was stone stuck in tyre but with the exhaust blow it was difficult to tell otherwise. I have probably had this noise for quite a while. I don't hear it with windows up - anyway on to the noise.

I get a few clicks that sound like they are coming from rear right (from drivers seat with front windows down) when moving off in first, switching between first and reverse, engine breaking at low speed so basically when load is being applied in a new direction.

I don't hear the sound once properly moving though and I don't think it is there on proper acceleration or anything.

A couple of threads on some BMW/350Z forums describe the same symptoms.

So lots of potential related things it might be and some interesting solutions to take up slack in the drivetrain. Obviously a proper investigation is required but has anyone had similar ?

Thanks for any info

Mine developed an occasional clunk when moving from reverse to forward. I replaced the diff oil and noise went. Worth a try

There likely hood is that yourve lost some teeth as mine did then they start breaking off one by one and the clink becomes
Very bad oil replacement is not going to solve anything

Vauxhall paid for mine as a goodwill jester even though I had no warranty as they know that the diff fitted to the vxr8 to
Sub standard for the power delivery of the engine

Thanks for the info all.

I am guessing yours was just a bit out of warranty at the time. My car is a 58 so long out of warranty.
Previous owner of mine claimed the diff had been replaced under warranty before but I have no documentation to support that. I have had the car for more than 2.5 years though so that would have been a while ago.
