pretty bullet proof. aslong as car isn't massive power (600bhp+) box is pretty under stressed

might want to think about a gearbox Remap to improve shift and smoothness

Box is strong, reliable but is more "D and go" as no paddle shifters

I think the automatic boxes suit these engines better - even with a small increase in power, but I do know that some of the supercharged cars have problems with the 'box's selection of gear when pressing on. Even the gearbox remaps don't seem to iron all of the problems out.

Auto boxes are fine albeit a little old skool in operation. It's also dead easy to fit paddles which does give more control when driving.

I prefer the Auto box for the daily grind and and i just use tiptronic if i want manual type fun.

2 boxes in one.

I have a 57 auto not major issues couple of mapping problems but nothing spectacular just needs fettling, going to drop it into the fish at some point to get it resolved. Mechanically I think its fine though only done 25k miles or so since new. I drove a manual at one point the box was pretty terrible although it was on its original ls2 clutch so its possible it would have been more drivable with the ls7 I don't know.

I have an auto box which has been remapped by the fish. Big difference in driveability and smoothness. Box seems good match for the car and copes well with everything you can throw at it

No regrets buying an auto here, think it suits the car and much easier to drive in heavy traffic. If you wanted to do loads of track work a manual would probably be more suitable.

Remap makes it far better and you'll need to have a new flex plate if you want big power mods. Early LS2 wont have the transmission/oil cooler, but can be retro fitted. You can select the gear yourself and it will hold it on the red line, but wont let you do anything daft. Also has sports mode with PAS/PAL and will adjust shifting accordingly.

Yes, I did think of you, as I was typing my reply, as yours was standard, yet you didn't get on with it. Maybe you're still too young at heart to appreciate an auto. wink
