And is it MikeyB who has VXR8 wheels without being tubbed?
Only if you put VXR8 fronts on the back, they are narrower so sort of defeats the object. You will need to mini tub to fit 285 R8 wheels on the back.
I have 285s and RaceLogic TC. Works pretty well.

Ian, you're correct, I was running VXR8 rears at the back.
Although they look great and definitely allow more rubber, they are horrendously heavy. The increase in unsprung mass was hugely apparent- so much so that it outweighed ( no pun intended
) the benefit of having wider rubber. At some point I'll look to fit 9" rears, potentially BMW items, but preferably some Team Dynamics wheels.

Wormus- incorrect.

Grip is epic compared to 245s even running almost 700bhp (fly)

I've done quite a bit of looking into offsets that fit (you may have guessed from the Schnitzers on our Ute), and if you want a similar offset to the VXR8 wheels, then BMW do 19" staggered sets for the X3 that could be just what you need. Gurmeet has/had a set of TD Pro Race on his Monaro, but IIRC it wasn't an easy task for him to get what he asked for.Ian, you're correct, I was running VXR8 rears at the back.

When I was running an X6 style of wheel on our VXR8, we were saving 7.5kg of unsprung weight on each corner, from what I remember - but they only had a 35mm offset, so wouldn't be any good for your Monaro.

Mark, Jez and I all had our Monaro's minitubbed to make VXR8 rears fit. They might go on if you don't but I doubt you'll be able to go over any bumps with 285s on the back. You can get 255s on stock rims so back to my point - no point in changing.
Roger Hall fitted 10" rims on his without tubbing but used a different offset and rolled his arches to suit.
With over 600whp you do benefit from the wider rubber.

You're right, 35 offset is too low for me unfortunately. I need around 47-50 on a 9" rear. I actually have some X3 wheels in mind- the 191 style. I don't know if it was these you were thinking of too? Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
