I'm not an expert but usually if the throttle body isn't responding as it should the car will go into limp mode.

Try unplugging the MAF and see if it changes? Your cleaning may have damaged it?

Unplugging the maf makes no difference to the rpm, just tried.
with being an auto, if i start in n or p. revs settle at 1500, if i then put into d or r after a few seconds revs drop to normal idle, but once throttle is touched it goes back to a high idle

So does that imply the MAF is damaged? If the engine acts similarly when it is unplugged? AFAIK it will default to a predefined limp map if the MAF isn't providing expected info?

(I haven't had any MAF issues so I'm running on logic as opposed to LS2/3 experience)

T/b is electrically operated and if you pushed it open by hand you might have to get it reset ,someone will come along and let us know if this is correct soon but i,m sure someone else had this problem

Alternatively, high RPM can be the sign of an air leak. Are you sure all of the joints are sealed, the gaskets seated right, and no pipes are split?

Just had another look this morning.
Took air intake off, def no air leaks.
I never took the throttle body of initially, just cleaned what i could see, so presume no leak from the gasket.

What does this say to you.......
When the intake was off this morning i started the engine and idles as it should 550rpm, could rev and would drop back to idle.
when the intake was off also, there was the stability control message on the dash, when i put it back it had dissapeared, can i assume this needs to see a vacum of some sort.

If nobody has the answer, do you think a remap, which i have been thinking about also, could correct the idle
thanks again

Your problem started when cleaning, did you spray the sensor of the MAF, this may be the cause.

Also dont have remap until this problem is sorted first

Didn't spray anything directly.used a rag and sprayed onto that then wiped.Didn't go near any sensors.

Had exactly the same problem after cleaning the throttle body see here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Eventually got it sorted with Monkfish. They struggled with it for a while and certainly had them scraching their heads tried many throttle bodies on it and it was an old one that some how got it running ok again.

Would suggest giving them a call, but not sure if they would want to tackle the problem again. Think mine and us both pulling our hair out! Good luck getting it sorted and pm me your email/number number if you need to discuss.
