Hi Arron sorry to hear your bad luck , is it definitely terminal ? You must be running a sc or turbos , I thought these engines were pretty bullet proof but yours failing and I think one went recently on a vxr8 too
Yes they seem to think so but can't tell till the engines out and have had a look at the block but with a camera down the spark plug hole said it doesn't look good. And yes heartbeat sc. The ron said:
After 6 months of ownership and only 1500 miles it looks like my engine has failed. She's currently sat at the fish waiting for the engine to be taken out. They think it has been running on 7 cylinders for some time which is why I only got 155 at thunder road.
I know how you're feeling mate - my R8 is currently at AAS getting a new crate motor fitted as we speak. Most LS engines have weak pistons. They're designed to do the job for an atmo engine. They're nice and light but with a thin top ringland which reduces crevice volume. That's great for emmissions control but get knock, detonation or bad tune and it's curtains in an instant. There isn't a safety net. On an old rover the top ringland is 8mm thick, it's a dinasour. It'll survive boost though.
