After 6 months of ownership and only 1500 miles it looks like my engine has failed. She's currently sat at the fish waiting for the engine to be taken out. They think it has been running on 7 cylinders for some time which is why I only got 155 at thunder road.

Yes they seem to think so but can't tell till the engines out and have had a look at the block but with a camera down the spark plug hole said it doesn't look good. And yes heartbeat sc.

Gutted mate that's such a bummer any idea what has caused it? I've had mine 3 months (ish) and when i was looking all I read was how bombproof the engines were and in the last few weeks that's 2 engines gone pop. How much power was yours running with the Heartbeat?

Really sorry to hear that Aaron. Times like these really take the shine off ownership.

There's been a lot of suggestions recently, about what others should/are doing - so I don't think you need those sort of posts. Good luck with getting it sorted quickly, and cheaply.

I know how you're feeling mate - my R8 is currently at AAS getting a new crate motor fitted as we speak.

Are we talking about Roger Hall's old R8 ? I thought it was in a fairly mild state of tune?

Shame mate hope you get it sorted. Could be worse though. There was a recent ph thread where a bloke was saying he needs a new engine for his f10 m5........bmw quoted £35k!

Most LS engines have weak pistons. They're designed to do the job for an atmo engine. They're nice and light but with a thin top ringland which reduces crevice volume. That's great for emmissions control but get knock, detonation or bad tune and it's curtains in an instant. There isn't a safety net. On an old rover the top ringland is 8mm thick, it's a dinasour. It'll survive boost though.

Bloody hell! Sorry to hear that mate and I am very surprised as its not running allot of boost so this sort of thing should not happen!

Be interested in what Roger finds as he told me they have never had a failure on the boost levels they set that car to!

Interested to know what sort of dynamic compression ratio the car was running and what fuel was used.

During my ownership it was stock compression, 8psi peak boost and 98 or normally 99 octane fuel only.
