hi all,i currently have a 700 bhp evo 5,that is pretty quick!but i really fancy a change and am thinking about getting a holden!but what is the best model to go for?
i import cars from japan,so am used to all the import hassle, and i want to go to aus and pick one and get it shipped back?but i think im going to need a big bhp model to make it anything like as quick as my evo!
are they easy to tune?what sort of power are they standard?what sort of power can you get out of them?
which model has all the bodykit/big brakes/nice bucket type leather seats etc?

please can somebody answer any of my questions?

700bhp from 2 litres?
What the hell have you done to get that amount of power?

Anyway, go for the 6.0 litre VXR version.
It is by far the best model and will be a good base for tuning, but why 400 bhp would not be enough for the road, only you will know!

UK car. Just launched in 6-litre form here. I get mine next week.
No point importing, just get an official UK car.
The costs will be similar anyway, all told.

If you are talking modified cars then no, you will have to import, but the final costs of getting a decent highly-tuned 5.7 Monaro from Australia will be substantial.
You prepared to spend £50,000+, all in?

The car I get next week is 404ps or 399bhp.

There are only two Monaros over here. 354ps and 404ps.
The latter is plenty fast enough for the road.

You can't use more than that anyway, unless you spend most of your time on a track.

YUP. Sure am. A 6-litre VXR next week to replace my current 5.7 (333ps model).
It costs £37,000 new, but I am getting a good deal on my old car in part-exchange.

The way I see it, what other 180mph car will cruise effortlessly at 150mph on the Autobahn, take 4 people in supreme comfort, has a legendary engine full of character which is simple to work on by modern standards and costs 'only' £37K brand new?

If importing is no object, then look on carsales.com.au
set yourself a price range e.g $20K-90K AUD click on 'all states'then HSV GTO.,there's some stunners on there especially in private sales.
Another site is carpoint.com.au same formula

Shaun

Get the Monaro mate. As mentioned before I have the small engine Monaro only 5.7L and approx 350bhp & 369lb.ft.

I should have probably gone for the VXR but couldn't really justify the extra £7k. Maybe in a years time I might upgrade.

Great car though mate.

The 5.7 is great but the 6.0 has many many improvements, some of which the dealers are not even aware of.

The engine is bigger, of course, but also lighter.

It is smoother, yet has much more power and torque.

The gearing is fractionally shorter, which it needed to be.

The wheels are bigger and the exhausts are less restrictive.

Lots more changes, besides these.

Shaun, if you fancy a 700bhp Monaro, talk to Mark at Linden (see Links). My 4dr HSV has approx. 530bhp, which is a good compromise between performance, cost, reliability and fuel economy. The chassis could easily cope with more bhp, but I wouldn't want to be without my AP brakes!
With the Chevy engine, the tuning limits are really down to how much money you want to spend. The LS1 is commonly used in drag cars!

Hi Shaun

If u r looking at serious mods and power u would be better off with a 5.7. There is far more knowledge and options available at the moment for the 5.7 engined car. Initial cost would be lower and mods would cost less as well. There are many people on the forum who have 400+bhp cars that have done little more than altered to a proper sounding exhaust, and saved a bundle of money.

Totally agree with Caspy, pretty much everything that can be done to the LS1 has been done, plus its tried & tested. Saw & heard the LS2 in a Chevy SSR at Linden last week. It is sweeter than LS1, but will take some time for the tuners to suss the software etc. Like Caspy said, tuning is bound to be more expensive.
You also get a much bigger boot with the LS1 engined cars!
