Brockys Goodwood car
Discussion
The Unique Cars article says it's his '1984 Group C VK'
It's owned by Qld Brock collector Peter Champion.
It's got a fresh Neil Burns engine fitted, whoever he is?
Although the car wasn't allowed to exceed 60ks at a Sandown demo in '03 Brocky says he'll be " getting stuck into it over there,I can tell you". Can't wait.

G’day Mick,
Just to let you know who Neil Burns is,
Most of this info has come from the Great article on the 1984 Group C Touring Car from, in Issue 18 of Australian Muscle Car Magazine, which has finally turned up on my doorstep.
Neil Burns is the guy who worked in-house at the HDT (Holden Dealer Team) Factory workshop to build the Great Engines for all the HDT Cars, from the late 70’s to the early 80’s. That includes the mighty A9X Torana (L34 Engines) & the many Commodores that Brocky drove to victories at Bathurst.
The Engine in the 1984 VK Commodore was basically an updated L34 Engine (5.0L) with all the good bits in them like Harrop crank, forged steel Carrillo rods & Cosworth forged aluminium flat-top pistons. The heads were the big valve Brock heads (as used on the Brock road cars) with Crane roller rockers. Fuel was feed via a pair of twin-choke 48mm IDF Weber carbs.
I thought the car had about 500 bhp, but they say the end result was just over 400bhp (300kW) at 6800rpm and 385 ft/lbs (520Nm) of torque at 4800rpm. Not bad for a Carby fed 5.0L Holden Engine in 1984, because those figures are on par with the new LS2 6.0L Engine in the new HSV / VXR Monaro’s.
Regards,
Rob.

Some facts about the two, “Last of The Big Bangers” 1984 VK Group C, HDT Cars.
As I see it there was,
Car 05 Chassis ID – “HDT Comm 6”, Peter Brock & Larry Perkins.
Car 25 Chassis ID –“HDT Comm 7”, John Harvey & David Parsons.
The cars were built for the last 3 endurance events of 84, the Sandown 500km, Bathurst 1000km & Surfers Paradise 300km races. HDT always built new cars for the endurance events.
The 05 Car won all 3 races, with Brock driving solo in Surfers.
The 25 Car was 3rd Sandown, 2nd Bathurst & 6th in Surfers.
After this the 05 Car Chassis HDT Comm 6, was donated to the National Motor Museum at Bathurst & the 25 Car Chassis HDT Comm 7, was sold to a John Farrell in WA who raced it briefly before selling it & shipping it to the UK in 1985.
Now all you Vauxhall fan’s, you would have then seen it re-badged as a Vauxhall (sounds familiar) & raced with great success by John Cleland in the Thundersports (Thunder Saloons I think, hay Trev). Later a Chev Donk was dropped in it.
It was tracked down by an Aussie collector & shipped back to Aus in 2001. (I missed it) It was raced in Historic Group C before it was sold again to current owner Peter Champion. Peter has had it fully restored to it’s1984 spec by John Van Roosmalen of the HDT Owners Club. It took 12 months to complete & was driven just prior to the 2003 Sandown 500 by Peter Brock. Peter & Larry gave the car the big thumbs-up.
So at this stage we are not sure if it will be the 05 car or the 25 car that spent most of it’s life here in the UK, that will be shipped over for the Goodwood event. Looks like the 25 car hay, as Peter Champion owns it.
Just to finish, I have been put in contact with some one very close to the car and I’m waiting to hear from him. So if I hear from him I will let you all know exactly what is happening at the Goodwood event and the possiblity of meeting this man.
That’s all I will say, for now!

Thanks mate,
No mate, if you had read Issue 18 Aust Muscle Mag, you could have written the same mate. It has a fantastic article on the 2 cars from 84, interview with Brock, Perkins & Engine man Neil Burns & it has the restored car is on the cover.
I have forgoten a lot in my old age, but you will always find me with my head stuck in a Holden mag, especially Australian Muscle Car Mag, as it looks back at the old Muscle cars & Touring cars. With the help of collectors & readers it also traces as many of them as possible to find out what has happened to them & they try to get them back to Aussie and restored.
The Brock Commodores, take me back to the Day's when I was Free & single, Married only to me mates, when the only thing that matered was that we got to Bathurst on the first weekend in "Brocktober" (October) to see Brocky win again and the only thing we had to worry about was to make sure the beer was cold.
Can't wait to see 05 & Brocky again, on the Mountain, this time at Goodwood.
Rob.
