Mondaro New Model 6.00 VXR
Discussion
I know I am being pathethic but
I was about the buy a Noble M400
yes I know not too practical.
Then it was suggested a Mondaro 6.00 VXR.
Wow its good cool & everything else.
I read all the articles & 185+ was suggested.
I'll have some of that, but now i've been told
about 165 mph......................... Oh hell that's
not what I wanted.
Is there anyone (owner) out there who can assure me that 180+ is possible.
Cheers

With the car in std tune, u would need a long run to reach 180. I am sure it will do it but long gears etc.
Interested at your Noble thoughts. 'Played' with one the other day whilst in my VXR. That is a quick quick quick car. Followed him to the factory and had a chat with Simon Hucknall. Very diff cars M400 totally track focused, VXR quick GT. And alot of money for a track day car by camparison.
My PCM tuned VXR will pull 170+ and stop on std brakes on a measured two miles (not straight) so with a little tweaking it should pull easily in the right environment. Would use a GPS based speedo to verify, my speedo under read!! And then wont move past 161mph!! Car still accelerating at that point though.
I would rather spend an hour at 160+ in a Monaro than 2 mins at 180+ in a M400.

The Monaro 6.0L VXR will hit 162mph in 5th at the end of a 1.5 mile straight...and still be accelerating.
On the data logging it would appear to top out at 174 - 6mph. Getting the car over 180 would seem to require at least a 40PS power hike ( about what a set of headers and free flow exhaust would give you I believe).
Pretty nippy for a sub £40K car

So it is in fact not the fastest ever Vauxhall then, the LC remains victorious at 176 mph officially and 187 unofficially
Not according to Auto Express

Although official figures have yet to be released, Vauxhall claims the car has a 0-60mph sprint time of around 5.0 seconds and a top speed of 180mph - quicker than the 177mph Lotus Carlton.
I believe they are talking about the 6 litre Monaro. Details are here
I think I may be changing shirts
It's all symantics (sp?). Even if it gets pipped on top end it still has more torque!!
Bottom line I will concede is that the Monaro is tuneable whereas, realistically, the LC isn't.
Aerodynamics let the LC down now but they are both very quick where it counts.
Still, one day I'll have a VXR as a garage mate for LC. Think I will be going for the 5.7 though. While the 6.0 litre is quicker, the 5.7 is a little more practical and more exclusive.

I like pretty much all things GM with big engines, even the Cadillac CTS-V!! Just wish I had enough money to buy one. I guess I'll see some of you at Santa Pod in June or Billing in July.
