Monaro the name is Aboriginal for "high place"
Torana the name is Aboriginal for "to fly"
Yes mate, Torana is Aboriginal for "To Fly"
But Holden have said the word Monaro was Aboriginal for "Small Hill". Some Tribes use the same word for, (wait for it) "Breast" (wondered why I like it so much!)
Rob.

The Monaro model name was suggested by Noel Bedford, a member of Holden’s design staff in 1967. The word is of aboriginal origin, meaning a high plateau or high plain. The car shares its famous name with the Monaro range, which is part of New South Wales’ Snowy Mountains as well as the Monaro Shire district, located south of Canberra.
Thanks Paul, you must have got the Monaro book out, I still have to buy that one.
Yes mate see all of these different interpretation of the word Monaro,
High Place, Small Hill, High Plateau & High Plain, all relate to Mountains, as you said The Monaro range, which is part of New South Wales’ Snowy Mountains.
Even the word "Breast" is a Small Mountain hay.

Hi mates
If memory serves correctly,I put the Monaro name info on the Forum back in Jan last year,22/1 I think.Former Unique Cars editor Graham Smith took a Monaro to Monaro and wrote about it.There's a Monaro Highway too.
So he drove a Monaro to Monaro on the Monaro. Three for the price of one,not bad eh! Apparently it's a ' tranquil rural area' known as Southern Monaro, regarded as platypus country. There is a Monaro car club too.Anybody interested could contact Andrew at admin@MonaroCarClubOfNSW. He would probably like to hear from UK owners.
Hey Rob there's a '69 HTGTS for sale shame about the
$25K AUD price tag.
