Naff, cool, worthwhile, waste of time?
Considering one for my Monaro when it arrives.

Cheers,

Doesn't look like that would offer too much protection on the main parts that may get chipped therefore don't agree that it would necessarily have any advantages over standard type bra.

Mrs 88 has a "colgan" bra on her z3 - very practical on long motorway trips / bad roads...

Colgan appear to do colour coded ones as well, but I haven't checked for Monaro - is that same as Pontiac GTO?

Saw Roger 440's UTE over the weekend. He had a protective film over the front bar and the bonnet. Looked great and lookes like it provides good protection.
What was the company that did it Roger440?

Certainly have had it done. After SVA i had it done straight away before i collected any damage.

In addition to the bonnet and front bar/valance they also did back of the front arches, headlights and spotlights, painted part of mirrors, back of the rear arches, bottom of the rear wings(bumper) in line with the wheels, the whole length of the sills and the door tread plate area (no fancy trims fitted on a ute).

The company that did it was Bradleys in suffolk, the name of the product being Smart Guard, which i believe is a franchise set up, with the place that did mine being the training centre - i think!

The cost was just over £500 (in 2003)

Since then (about 20,000 miles)i have had one stonechip that has broken through the film - and i heard it hit the car, so it was pretty big!

The only critisism i would have is that in a couple of places they didn't press down the edges properly and subsequently the dirt has got underneath it. Easily avoided if i had it done again as id just rub the edges myself.

Their phone number is 01728 745200.

In my last HSV I did over 30000 fast motorway miles and it looked as if the front end had been fired at with a shotgun. Must be something to do with the aerodynamics of the HSV body kit, as all my other cars have never received more than a couple of stonechips.
My current HSV had a protective film fitted by Rod at HSV UK before it was let loose on the press. Result is only a couple of chips(on unprotected parts) in 32000 miles. I highly reccomend it.
You hardly notice it, although wax will build up along the edges, when polishing, but thats easy to rub out.
Can't find the details of who fitted it, Mark at LSV might remember. Noticed www.paintshield.co.uk advertising in EVO & Autocar.
P.S Not as "sad" as your car covered in chips & needing a respray every year.

Cheers folks.

I agree, the one on eBay doesn't look like it'll offer much protection. Quite like the more traditional ones offered by carbra and colgancustom too. Would have to carefully compare the front of an '05 Pontiac with the Monaro before buying one from the US.

Roger440, I had Armoufend on the front of my Cerbera (similar stuff to Smart Guard). It had been fitted from new (approx £1000 apparently!!) and still looked good after 6 years and 40k miles.

If anyone is interested, www.carbra.com.au have quoted A$415 for a 2005 Monaro Bra, delivered to the UK. That works out at about £170....which I thought was quite reasonable.

Cheers,

Neil
