Just to let you know that I reached a dizzy 24.1 mpg on Sunday.
Trip was Leeds to Bridlington & return..
Mind you I did push it half way there (only joking)
cheers M3144

by the way (no back windscreen wiper) ????
and for the person who asked about the car photo on a previous post, it was taken near Kendal in a Farm shop just off A65 heading towards motorway M6.. Not my back garden I'm afraid

On the way over to the V8 driving day (last month) with 'Test Drive' magazine, I got 29.8 mpg from my 5.7.

Boy, it took some effort though.

I would love to know how you got that MPG. I haven't got above 20mpg ever, anywhere!

Just this weekend got an average 29.9 mpg on a 200 mile round trip.(all motorway work). Best figure to date, and thats AFTER Wortec gave me some extra power.

Result all round!

Typically on a combine dcycle I get 20ish, 29 or so at motorway speeds, 15 or less when driven 'properly'!

What I find interesting (and scary) is when needle is on the start of the red range(fuel gauge obviosuly) in stationatry traffic you can watch it fall!

booster - that would be a result of your remap and eager right foot?

booster-Not sure what re-map you have had, but my supercharged car is more economic in a like for like comparison than my previous car. At 70 mph in 6th gear, which is approx. 1750 rpm, I reckon on getting 30 mpg. I average approx. 22mpg combined.
Optimax petrol seems to give me slightly better mpg.

A57 HSV - I belive he has had a wortec as I have had -the referenece was merely tongue in cheek i.e. more oomph and wanting to enjoy it!

I agree with Optimax best mpg and seems smoother

Sure, I was just curious if those who have had remaps done were noticing a difference in mpg. I have had several turbo cars which I had remapped & always found that when driven on a like for like basis, economy was often better but never worse. Of course, with more power you tend to use it & overall mpg falls. I do lots of motorway driving so it is easy to make mpg comparisons.
When driven hard I know my car does very low mpg. But I'm have been surprised by the low mpg figures given by some Monaro owners on this forum. Maybe this is because the cars are so new & therefore low mileage & mpg could improve with a well run in engine. But it could be the difference between the HSV & Holden/Vauxhall programing. The UK Monaros are I imagine changed from the Aus. settings to meet UK regs.?
It seems that HSV Commodores maybe more economic than UK spec. Monaros.

04 and 05 Monaro are not re tuned for the UK........

a re map on a Monaro gives an average of 2mpg extra.

My experience from the HSV is you get a faster acceleration due to the lower diff so you get up to speed faster and back off the gas. With the Monaro(CV8) you need to keep your foot down longer to get up to speed so you use more fuel. (this is on a standard car)

On a steady throttle the Monaro is more economic because of its higher diff.

Also after the re map you can drive in 6th at 40mph without your foot on the gas and the car is very happy!! try that on your standard car (caution 05 owners don't try it!!!!!!!)

A57 HSV I agree - I had a prodrived Impreza and found economy better as well as peformance - obviously!

I also do alot of motorway miles and find my cv8 as 'economical' as my Foester turbo ie ave 29mpg.

The car is only used on short local journeys (school runs and shopping. On a Sunday (my day off) I go off down the road to tootle around and have some real fun! Tee hee. The remap is the dogs nads and certainly affects my ability to withdraw my foot from the accelerator pedal. Great fun = naff mpg.
I have tried to drive sensibly but it is SO HARD.....I fail everytime. Just need to see a BMW in my mirrors and I'm away!

Uk hsv - Interesting to hear that no changes were made to the Monaros. I had always just assumed that to meet the "start up" emmisions regs. etc. the ECU's would be altered from Aus. spec.
Booster - Know exactly what you mean about "sensible" driving, I am forcing myself to slow down this year, but its not easy. Got a bit scared about the prospect of "doing time".
Its funny, as whenever I drive well known "fast" cars, I don't care, but in the HSV I always feel I've got something to prove. One reason why I thought about selling it this year!

For the first time I got truly scared driving this car last Sunday. I think it's time for me to get some advanced driver training so that I can really get the most out of this car without compromising my safety and others around me. The last time I felt like this was when I gave up flying. Anybody know how I can go about getting this training or where it is available.
