As a fairly recent new member I thought I would share my recent and humble experience of Monaro world.

I had my CV8 'enhanced' last week consisting ostensibly of a complete SS exhaust system including new headers and a remap to ensure the new breathing worked correctly.

WOW!!!! Good V8 base at idle and thunderous NASCAR style wail under load yet quiet at cruise with no drone.

The noise is astonishing I have had TVR/Porsche/BMW drivers pass me, slow down and follow then pass again making all sorts of interesting signs.

The signs became more interesting as I then past most of them!

I first fell in love with V8s at Le Mans back in the mid 80s - this is the closest I have come to those memories.

My father in law has a 550hp supercharged Aston V8 and he reckons mine sounds better! Alright its an Aston...... but £90,000 more!

These cars are incredible! I have just completed a 450 mile round trip with my family, averaged 31 MPG in comfort, including some serious blasts - even got a thumbs up from a police outrider. I still cannot believe what you get for your money with these.

The base car is a great start but get some people who know what these cars are capable of and how to extract it...crikey. My next investment is a Road Angel, probably a good lawyer and some one to show me how to get the most out of the machine as a driver.

I know there are a number of people looking at mod options and what you can get clearly depends on the model and year of vehicle( as I understand it) mine is proving to be an absolute belter.

I must stress, I have no interest in any supplier chain but in response to the recent 'debate' between suppliers on this forum I will happily stand up and represent the customer front and a b****y happy one at that.

Anyone interested I will update my experience good or bad - may be it will help you decide. Thats how I started down this road.

Dan the Man - Wortec carried out the work waiting for final invoice.....but circa £3k.

Booster - Also CAI, new MAF pipe and air filter.

Th price included collection and delivery of car and RR sesion for fine tuning.

Apparantly in a drag session my car started to pull away from a benchmark HSV GTS at 130!!

P47ThBolt, A few questions about the Wortec mods in particular...

Where are Wortec based? Couldn't find this on the website.

How long did they have your car for?

Have the mods affected your Vauxhall Warranty at all?

What insurance company are you with and how did they react to you notifying them of the mods? (I presume you would have had to, as a condition of insurance)

Forgive bunch of 'newbie' questions! I'm not a "serious" modder, in fact I've never modded a car at all other than by denting it in a car park, but I've had the Monaro for a year now and have been toying with the idea of upgrading to a VXR. However the Wortec deal sounds like the proper job and gives a great sound too for a whole lot less money! Being Mister Sensible Head, though, I need to look into knock-on effects such as insurance and warranty before I can take this anywhere. I'm insured with Tesco at the moment.

Looking forward to a sound clip if you can get one on here

Hi Moosepig

Answers to your questions:

I can put you in touch with Wortec they are south coast based - Southampton area.

They had my car for 2 days.

Warranty - well that is an interesting one. I suspect that any parts changed that are not standard Monaro parts are not covered. As no mechanical changes have been made to the engine (other than the bolt on breathing bits)most aspecst should be OK - although I suspect it will be down to the discretion of Vaiuxhall. These engines have been modified well beyond this set up and run as every day cars with no adverse affects - look at the guys who have superchargers!!

Perhaps Caspy could comment on this one?

Personally I intend to keep this car for some time as there is always more you can do! I had an Impreza once with a ProDrive upgrade and that is my limited experience on 'modding'.

I can understand where you are coming from though regarding getting all of the facts - that is what I tried to do and to be fair teh advice from this forum seems pretty spot on.

Insurance - yep notified about the changes - they seem interested in new exhausts and new wheels - not my new brakes which surprises me - what if I got a dodgy fitter and they did not work leading to a big claim? - they were not interested - NU 'Quote me happy' - Had an increase that will add couple hundred quid onto next year may be more. Worth it though.

That's bonkers isn't it. Then again insurance is all about risk mitigation rather than safety or common sense. By modding a car in certain ways (i.e. to enhance performance or sound) you immediately get placed in a separate insurance class of human subspecies that goes around crashing into things on a weekly basis.

That's also crazy! that's more than the difference between premiums I was quoted for CV8 and VXR, and essentially all you've done is bring your car up to VXR spec! Insurance companies:

Few more questions if you'll bear with me:

What type of exhaust system did you get? Did it have cats or no cats?

You say you're planning to keep the car awhile - do you know whether your new PCM/exhaust setup meets MOT emissions regs?

Where did you get your HSV brake upgrade done and how much was it?

Can you describe how loud the zorst is - e.g. in a quiet suburban street how does it go down with the neighbours? I think you can see where I'm coming from here

Cheers for your patience

Hi moosepig

Sorry for delay in answering you questions been a bit busy.

CV8 v VXR - my car is beyond a standard VXR and that is an 05!

Emissions are OK

I will update on what exhaust type make etc. but comes with cats.

Brakes - I was lucky to obtain a full set from an HSV coupe which had about 6k on the clock and cost with fitting well under £1000! via Wortec.

Exhaust sound - I live in quiet cul de sac. No probs creates a bit of stir when you start up especially when cold.

As long as you do not press too hard on the loud peddle you will not have any trouble. What is great about this system is under load it sounds awesome but drive by noise is OK - a great balance.

Your neighbours will definately know you have had something done! But they will like it - on my cul de sac my neighbours have highly tuned jap stuff, Lotus Exige (with racing engines), top line BMWs, hand built caterham's! so they quite like it!

Go for it - every drive becomes an event!!
