Hi guys,
I have had my Metalic Blue Monaro CV8 for around 3 1/2 months, I still think it is great! However...........

Every time I wash it I find new white microscratches, these are not deep indeed you cant feel them with a finger nail. The paint seems to be very thin and perhaps a little soft, maybe missing a clearcote.

Has anyone else noticed this, does anyone have an idea of a fix (tried coloured polish).

Micro scratching occurs mainly as a result of washing technique. Some simple but effective rules are:

1) Only use a lambswool mitt NEVER a SPONGE or jetwash.
2) Use 2 buckets when washing. Fill one with plain old water and rinse the mitt off in it and then dunk it in the suds each time you reload the mitt.
3) Don't wash from the bottom up - if possible use a different mitt for the bottom (dirtiest) part of the car.
4) Dry with a good quality microfibre towel and not a chamois.

There are a number of ways to remove the scratches you have. If you can't feel them with your fingernail then you are in luck - these can be polished out. For loads of good information try the www.autopia.org , www.bettercarcare.com, www.meguiars.co.uk -

Cheers
Brian

I had heard that the paintwork might be susceptible to chips/marks, so got my car sealed by Supagard as part of delivery package. 12 months later, I have only one chip (on lower front bar) to report and paint finish remains excellent.

Not sure if this is still a goer BUT...I made some enquiries a month back with Paintshield. The American arm of the company make some renowned and very well thought of see through protection (not that sort!). The MD chap at their newly formed UK franchise offered me a HUGE discount off the RRP if he could use my car as a model for making up the templates for the UK Monaro. At the end of the day it was still too expensive for me but this Paintshield is supposed to be the dogs nads. If i remember correctly the standard charge is around £475.00 but with discount it came to around £250 ish?? If you are interested you should contact them and see if the offer is still open. In the meantime I have had my stone chips repaired by Smart Wizard and they have done a remarkable job!

For Paintshield go to www.paintshield.co.uk Smart Wizard are a fairly local company but their web address is www.smart-wizard.com I have also heard great things about a more national company called Chips Away (they are on the net too).
