Uses for the boot garnish lights
Discussion
I've noticed that there's some holes for bulb holders in the boot garnish that sit above the reversing lights. They are on the same horizontal alignment as the current rear lights/brake lights.
* Can anyone tell me the part number for the bulb holders that would fit these holes please. Can't find anything on ls1.com.au or here.
I see 4 possible uses for these globes. Anyone able to tell me which, if any, would be legal as I'm unsure how much rear red light you're allowed to give off.
Opt#1 - Rear fog lights (This would give me back both reverse lights as 1 is currently being used as a fog light)
Opt#2 - Additional rear lights
Opt#3 - Additional brake lights (Useful if you have the uprated brakes to let people know you're really breaking - Just in case the additional brake lights in the rear spoiler, smoking tyres, and glowing disks didn't give it away)
Opt#4 - Combinations of the above
I could take pic's if it's not clear where these holes are.
TIA

moto-idiot!
I didn't realise who it was who asked the question, now I know! I do find it hard to remember who is who and who owns which car!!need those little avatar thingys!!!!
On the Calais, I think, down here they have lights in the middle section of the rear facia. (boot lid)
I believe the Berlina also has the same thing. They are the 2 "luxury" versions of your car. More guesswork here ,but I think there is some more harness available to wire the lights in, I would have to check with some people down here who have performed the modification.

Thanks Paul. Apologies for not being specific about the car. Details of the car are in my profile.
If I start off inside the boot lid, you can see the orange glow where a globe holder will fit. The globe holder you can see is the reversing one. It's the same config on the other side also.
If we then look at the exterior of the car, I've circled the 2 locations where the globes will go.
And here's a close-up shot of the RHS light cluster.
You can see the the reversing light has a red high intensity globe in it which acts as the fog light. Like we need this feature. The only thing the general public needs to worry about is how quickly the white headlights are coming towards them, not how quickly the red lights are disappearing
I'm going to take a torch tonight to find out just how much of the garnish will glow if fitted with the globes/LEDs. Hence the Q about how much rear red light is legal.
The other alternative of course is to replace the garnish with a solid colour one & replace the lights with 'Monaro-Style' TYC ones. Time to get Photoshop out to see what she'd look like with 'em fitted.

Hi Steve, Nice to see some pics. of the SS. It looks as if it's the same colour (Grey Storm) as my GTS, or is it just the light. Look forward to seeing it one day.
IMO the SS rear lights look really good as they are & suit the car.
Around here loads of "Max Powered" Corsa's, Saxo's etc. have fitted tail lights similar in style to the Monaro rear clusters. Nothing wrong with that or the Monaro's styling which I really like. I just think your car looks better in its original guise & if you were to fit Monaro clusters it might end up looking as if you had got them from Halfords.
Off topic, but how do you find the GM gearbox oil?

I believe the colour is Phantom Mica if it is identical to the Oz cars. I am with A57 HSV on this one! I would leave it as it is, being a fairly unique vehicle over there. However it is all comes down to personal choice. One thing that is different is that rear badge, the cars down here didn't come with a badge on the left hand side of the tail gate. (5.7V8) Do you have GENIII badges on the side? A nice looking badge for the guards is the "High Output 5.7" badge that was on the chevrolet cars in the middle east. Just a direct replacement, don't have to chev the car with that one at all!

I also mentioned the chromed grilles off the Berlina, they make the car look good too.

Many thanks to all who replied (on & off forum).
uk_hsv - Thanks for the pic. They do suit the car when it's got the body coloured boot garnish. Would look even better on a black car. These are similar:

Yep. Sure do. I don't know why though. Nobody seems to read them when sat at lights. Still get those who think they can get away faster than me. 'Is it coz I is black?'. I might take up your suggestion of the "High Output 5.7" badges just to drive it home to them
Thanks all for the complementary comments about my derriere. I've decided to keep it just as she is mainly because it's too much cost & work for very little gain. The additional globes have been added to the mod list.
