Great bit on drifting, the Japanese guy who had never driven the VXR before showed the potential and great PR for Vauxhall.

Clarkson now blaming the VXR for his bad back (longest power slide ever acheived was in a Vauxhall, my my)

If you did not catch it Sunday you will want to see the repeat

Great show, although it was a shame that most of the action was filmed in the wet with Hammond and the Japanese guy. There was only a brief clip of Clarkson doing a huge drift, with loads of smoke (and where his back 'went')at the end. I was hoping to watch the drifters completely shred a set of tyres in one session!

Track time:

Merc CL65 1.29
Impreza WRX 1.29.4
Impreza STi 1.30.1
*** Monaro VXR 1.30.1 ***
Audi S4 1.30.1
911 Turbo 1.31.0 (w)
Vauxhall VX220 1.31.3
NXR Type R 1.31.6 (w)
BMW 535d 1.31.8

I was surprised how quick it was on the track, hugely impressive for such a heavy car, even with 400bhp.
Just look at the cars with the same or near times.

The brief clip of Jeremy doing it is from his upcoming DVD (for crimbo). He puts it up against the new Corvette C6, BMW M5 etc etc

Such a wonderful machine... <sigh>

that was a great piece on the VXR.

Jezza really likes the Monaro, especially when he licked the red one in the top gear studio. Not sure if I've seen him do that to a car before.

All good PR for the Monaro range.

Mike

It did sound a bit muted, presume the VXR on TG had the standard exhaust.

As we all know, decent headers and an exhaust system - lsv, wortec even a custom system - makes a huge difference. The Monaro, isn't a proper Monaro, without one!

Been watching the TG feature again (and again).. look how tidy the handling was as the stig took the VXR around the track. Amazing for a rwd car, almost as if it has 4wd, thats how good the chassis is.

TG quote: "properly quick if you stop mucking about with it" Very neat."

The silver VXR they took drifting had a quad exhaust system (2 each side) yet the red car they did the quick lap in had a twin exit system with one large oval exit each side??.

Anyone here explain why there was the difference? VXR maybe sending a tweaked car for lapping?

I was told a certain supplier did the exhaust system for them, no names of course

The Coupe 4, has twin pipes on either side too, plus 4wd and flared arches. Nice! Auto only.

Had an idea this was the case either way the red car was not running standard pipes from what I've seen so far.

Wonder what brake upgrade they had on?, cos no way the standard ones would have stood up to even 1 hot lap from the Stig!.

Fantastic write up tho, now total strangers say "Wow, I saw that on Top Gear, it's F***King Awesome!!!", Rather than the usual "Wow, what is that?".

Game on!!!!

A good racing driver is much lighter on the brakes than "normal" drivers, so he may have got away with the standard set up.
It would be nice to know the Stig's thoughts.

Why no names?

It was Milltek, we supply the VXR systems for Vauxhall - the red Oval pipes on the TV.

and the extra 30bhp on the circuit no doubt helped the times

Get em from your dealer, tuner or direct from us.
