Well, been away on a three day camping trip with family over in Great Yarmouth.

1. Impressed - Fuel economy average from my home in cheshire over to Great Yarmouth which is 220mile drive each way, four people & boot full & stuff & varied A road driving... 25mpg! Thats including some heavy driving & cruising!

2. Unimpressed, on my arrival at camp site spotted what i thought was polish on top lip of my door handle, turns out the paint has flaked off! What?? Cant believe that, Vauxhall has agreed its a warranty job, but hell of a hastle as my nearest Monaro dealer is 50 miles away!

3. Big big mistake! On Thursday morning on the camp site, i went to the boot to get changed out of my jeans and into my shorts, put my keys inside boot while changing... and you can guess whats next!! yup shut the boot on the keys! Car was deadlocked too!! Panniced like hell, then phoned AA, they said £100 call out, so decided no option as spare keys at home 220miles away, so agreed to it, after long arguement on phone with AA as they wanted payment first even though credit card is in glove box and i cant get to it they eventually send someone out......

........... 1 hour later the guy arrives! Hasnt a clue what the car is, never seen one before! (so its going well!) He gets onto AA technical, a what?? Movano?? no! Merriva?? noooo uh?? is that one of them holden thingys?? so as you can guess no luck, doesnt know how to get in......

Then he mentions, well we can break a window but that wont get you into boot & will make a right mess & could be ages before you get a window... At that moment the comment over boot entry jogged my mind...

Long story cut short, with the air sac & a long piece of wire managed to open the boot in a method known only by Monaro owners....still took us over 30minutes of stress.. but saved our lifes!

.... added bonus, the AA guy & AA technical where so excited about the whole event?? and the knowledge gained they cancelled the £100 charge & theres no damage to the car.... LESSON LEARNT! Other wise id have spent my weekend on train traveling to & from home for spare keys!!

So appart from that, ive done 2000 miles in past 6 weeks & love it to bits... its my pride & joy, just need to sort this blumming flaking door handle! Anyone else had that??

Cheers,

Mike

Mike, pleased you got sorted out, but it might not be the best of ideas to publicly give away secrets of how to gain entry into a locked Monaro!

Yeh I agreemate..

But

1. Getting into the boot doesnt help you get into the car as the boots sealed off from the car!

2. This is only possible if the head rest is up, i have mine down always (hence the fluke this one was up! my passenger must have done so)

3. The emergency boot release is well documented in the users manual.

Agreed though, in retrospect i maybe shouldnt post that, but baring in mind it took me & the AA guy over 30minutes to finally do this i cant see its an easy procedure & even then they wouldnt have the car keys or anything, theyd be no better of than smashing the window!!

Its a help to you owners though dont you think??

It does when the cars keys are in the boot as described in the posters original post though

Oh, thanks for letting me know how to break into the Monaro boot now, we tend to keep that off forum in the Chimaera section

mcd,

My paint has started to come off both my door handles just at the top of the lifting section.

I'll take it in tm to see if it's a warranty job.

Why did the AA want £100? Is this an additional charge for members now then?

AA wanted it as it was a self caused incident!???

Anyway, if ive offended any of you with the boot comment, then i'm really sorry, never thought it would cause any issue me mentioning that!
