Stuffed it up a bit on the Right hand side... didn't realise how much of an angle the console is. A little bit of jigging will fix that.

Need to also sort out how to make it blend better into the console. Kind of looks a little out of place at the moment.

Looks great.

One suggestion would be to fibreglass the screen in place. That way the screen will look natural in the dash.

Or alternatively spray the sliver case of the screen black to match the facia.

Yeah. Been playing around with the idea of painting the whole thing black, including the screen. Just have to make sure that I prepare the surface properly so that the paint remains stuck.

Does any one know if you have to use a special paint for plastic? I assume I will need to give it an undercoat of some kind.

Where the screen is at the moment doesn't quiet work for me, but not really much alternative cause the head unit has to be at the top. Fibreglassing is definitely and idea, also playing around with the idea of making up a complete surround for the stereo and the screen. Not sure though, but this was just to get the sucker in there, and hopefully stay in there.

My day job at the moment is sitting at the pub watching the cricket... Although, umm, definitely going to have to pay attention to the game tomorrow.

I was thinking more about remodelling the current radio facia and keeping the metal body. This has distinct advantages:

1) No dash remodelling
2) I know the radio will fit back in it's hole
3) Simple
4) Quick car-to-car transfer/installation

I've quickly done this in CS2 to give you an idea:

Before:

After:

The other idea I've been toying with is using acrylic as the LCD surround. This also has big advantages:

1) Easy to cut
2) Easy to work with/mould to required shape using a heat gun
3) Once moulded if you paint the reverse of it black you now have a very cool black-glass look which is popular atm
4) Ultra flat finish to the centre console. All the right curves in all the right places.

Yeah, know what you mean.. Would have loved to have had the screen at the top and the stereo at the bottom, but couldn't get the stereo to sit back far enough at the bottom. Well it would have kind of fit, but you would have had to put the car in N to put a DVD in. But it was a very tight fit, with only about 1mm to spare between the face of the stereo and the gear stick, athough, don't forget mine is automatic, so don't know how much room there is on a manual.

Going to go visit a mate of mine who builds interiors for flash murray boats. He will definitely have a couple of ideas on what to do to make it look shmic.

Got a replacement console here already, so putting it back to orginal isn't too hard to do. Left the metal bit in there, cause no need to do anything with it. Got a little bit keen with the file, which is a bit of regret, so might get another one send over and just tidy it up a little bit.

Pretty happyish now though, cause atleast now got the screen in the car.. and not wedged up onto of the old stereo. For me it was pretty important to have instant music in the car. The JVC MP3/DVD player is a good bit of kit.

Anyhow, all definitely a work in progress.. But having fun doing it, and doing it as best I can. Will take some photos of it tomorrow, as looks a little bit better now, with everything back in..

The jobs up north, all the dudes are on holidays still. Usually there are 3 people who make a decision, and well, they seem to have gone down the track of having rolling holidays.

Don't worry... still hearing back from jobs back in June. Nothing about being organised in this place..
