Hi all my name is Lee and I purchased my 2006 monaro 5.7l manual a few months back life was good and I was really enjoying it until…

(This is where I am so sorry to be that new person on the forum with the first post asking for help…)

The gearbox started to get hard to engage gears, turns out this was a clutch problem, no major issue as a new clutch was sourced and fitted and all was well for 24hrs!

I now have an issue where the car will not start at all, nothing at all happens when I turn the key, I have had a new battery fitted and fitted a new starter motor and checked all the grounds, I am pretty certain that it is an immobiliser issue as I have no fuel pump or spark and the injectors are not operating and obviously the issue with the starter motor not turning either… I have checked the little pin on the key is touching to ring and there is also no immobiliser light on the dash… I’m not sure where to go next so any help advice would be really appreciated.

Cheers Lee

No real advice to offer, but I read of a similar thread a little while back so will link here in case it's of use:

Welcome to the fold Lee. smile
Whereabouts are you in the world?

Worth a try?....

Also note the mention of the clutch pedal. I believe later Monaro needed the clutch pedal to be fully down to allow starting. Is yours an early car (big boot) or later (small boot).
Could be as simple as the switch if so?

And did this fail to start happen at the same time as it was apart for the clutch ? more detail needed, timeline.

And you don't mention if there is anything on the dash, lights, nothing, warnings etc etc

And quite clearly you would have no spark etc.....the engine isn't even turning. Although key on regardless of anything else, if the ecu is alive the fuel pump will prime.

Where to go might be a reputable mechanic.

Sorry it would not let me reply for 24hrs as I was a new member or something.

Anyway update today- I left the key in the ignition for 45mins and now the car will crank over, it cranks and then starts for about 2 seconds and then cuts off.

To answer earlier questions- I knew there was no spark as I got it to crank by bridging the starter relay.

The fuel pump primes for a few seconds when the key is turned.

On the dashboard the ABS light and the airbag light is on before cranking, there is no battery light or engine management light at all at any point.

Total Auto in Eaton Socon are pretty switched on. They sorted my El Camino pretty quick and for a fair price

Hi Lee. It’s odd that it cranked after leaving the key in for 45min. Do you have another key to try? I don’t get the immobiliser light on mine with ignition on. I’m also in Leicester 😃

Worth a try no guarantee it will work , it's sounding like an immobiliser issue , put the key in the ignition turn the ignition so the lights are on , then push lock un lock on the fob , then turn key and see if it's starts , assuming you have two keys try it with both , fingers crossed

It sort of sounds immobiliser related, but if it gets the crank signal sent then from memory it has passed the VATS check.

You say key in ignition for 45 minutes, was that with ignition on?

Is your fuel pump possibly very much on its last legs, it managed to build enough pressure at some point during that 45 mins for it to run and then it's basically failed to keep up as soon as the engine is actually running and using fuel?

Seems a bit of a coincidence though for it to suddenly fail after a clutch replacement scratchchin I suppose these things can happen though.

Surely if it was the immobiliser, the little red light would be visible and it wouldn’t crank?

The red key light should come up on the dash , based on it working , it will crank but not fire , sometimes it will fire then cut off , my key was loosing its memory that's why I said the above as a possibly test

Red immobiliser light should flash until the ignition is turned on, when it goes out the startup lights come on till each system (abs, traction, airbag .....) is checked and ok'd during startup when they go out

Sorry been trying to reply but it says I can only reply at certain times as I’m a new member.

Update- I have tried all of the recommendations above but still the same.

The car was perfect for 24hrs after I had done the clutch, the fault seems to have occurred after i swapped the battery over.

As said before the car now cranks I ever and then fires for a second and then cuts out. I have removed the plugs and cranked it and I am definitely getting a good spark. There is no fault codes and on live data I’m getting a crank signal, I can hear the fuel pump prime for a few seconds and then goes off. I am waiting on a noid light and oscilloscope to check of the injectors are functioning or not. I have also just downloaded a manual so hopefully I will have a wiring diagram soon. Below is a picture of my dashboard lights with ignition on.

Any advice is much appreciated and if I get to the bottom of it I promise I will update and not just disappear!

Ah actually it won’t let me upload a picture but the general jist is there is no battery light or engine management light on (can’t remember if these should come on for a few seconds or not..?)

If you have a spark and it’s cranking, I’d look at the fuel pump. I assume it doesn’t smell of fuel?

This is sort of my conclusion as well, I have visually checked the fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the end of the rail and there is not a great deal there but when I bridge the fuel pump relay this goes up (which I would expect it to) I have even tried leaving the relay bridged so I have the pump constantly running and then cranking it but still won’t start…
