No more speed camera & parking fine immunity for Julian & the GTS Coupe!
As of today, my Victorian HOVER number plates that so brilliantly eluded the parking fine system (on tickets they just write "Black Vauxhall" hehehehe!), has succumbed to my new UK rego "M8 HSV" which will have it's debut club appearance this Sat at the Ace.
On the plus side though, now I can drive pass a Traffic Police car without getting pulled over!

UK citizenship?
Does that mean your car's team won the Ashes?

Hi HSVGTSCoupe,
Did you get a local drivers licence as well?
Were you able to swap it over or did you have to sit a test?

Yeah... my car's team won the ashes..
A Shitload more times than the English have!

My car may now have to have a UK identity but it's all Aussie other than that! Just like me (UK & Oz passports) it's got all angles covered!

No UK licence yet.. still keeping my Oz one for a while.

Hope to see a few of you at the Ace on Sat.
Julian

I have looked into this whole Aussie/UK licence thing and have found out that if you are over here for less than 12mnths you can drive on your Aussie licence. I have been here for 3yrs and in that time I have returned home a number of times and each time the 12month grace period resets. I have heard of a loophole, not sure if it is still open though, that if you tell your Aussie licence people (QLD, NSW, VIC etc) that you have lost your licence and get another one. Then give the old 'lost' licence to the DVLA when applying for a UK licence as you have to hand in your Aussie licence when doing so. So when you go back to Aus you can drive on your 'new' Aussie licence. Hope all that makes sense. But like I said, not sure if this still holds true..

Hi HSVGTSCoupe, I'm not sure what a 'shitload' actually means in terms of numbers, however there have been 71 Ashes Series in total, Australia have won 35, England 29 and there have been 7 drawn series. The longest winning streak is shared by both teams, being 8 on the trot, Australia between 1989 - 2003 and England 1882-1890.

I guess what has been the most distinctive difference between the two teams over the years has been the reaction to both winning and losing, however I feel England are now closing that gap, after-all, staying out all night getting pissed and making outlandish statements now seems to be 'the norm' for both teams. If we could only get Ashley Giles to take drugs and send sexually explicit text messages I believe the teams would be able to compete on an equal footing.

G'Day Julian,

About 12yrs ago I sent my Aussie licence to the DVLA to get the UK one, I asked if I could have it back because I would still need it.

I recieved a full UK licence & my Aussie one back. The Aussie one has now expired but I can trade the UK on in for an Aussie one when I return Home in December.

Regards,
Rob.

England USED TO BE a world power in many things.... so without the direct stats at hand, I'd bet the ledger is far more in Australia's favour if you look at "recent" history.. say the last 50 years? I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong though! Anyway.. it's been good to see all the english cricket fans have come out of the woodwork - & no amount of drugs or dirty phone messages will ever get Jones or any English bowler into the stratospheric class of "Warney the magnificent"
(Must be cold & grey again "oop North" - not a lot of things to do outside eh bye gum?)
Lets hope for your sake that you don't have to wait another 100 years for the next record breaking winning streak!
All good fun though, I must admit. xxxxxxxxxx

Pleased to see that my comments have been taken exactly in the context they were intended, and appreciate the 10 x's at the end of your post!

I guess I'd better come clean, as well as holding a British passport I also have a NZ one so I have double the reason to have a dig, after all its been a long time since we could skite about English cricket and it could be an equally long time before we able to do the same. Not sure it will be another 100 years but if the entertainment of the last series continues then who cares who wins - OK I do!

You are correct about the last 50 years, only 9 series wins to England, 16 to Australia and 5 drawn.

I had the good fortune to live in Australia in the early 80's and I have a fond memory of sitting with a group of Poms near the 'hill' at the SCG. Throughout the test we were pelted with bars of soap along with the chant 'I bet you don't know what this is'! Funny thing is, I still don't! xxxxxxxxxxx

that's funny... I can just picture that happening; you gotta love going to the cricket in Oz, it's an experience to be remembered regardless of which way your support lies! Anyway.. as a lover of wolly aniamls, you will get a laff out of this link (I've posted it on other threads but not sure if you've seen it)

I believe I saw it in one of your previous posts, very funny and based on a lot of fact! My only comment regarding sheep would be don't knock it until you've tried it!
