Beaten by an Fiesta XR2
Discussion
Relax - it was only a show and shine competition at the local motorstore. Hard to compete with a car thats just come out a paint booth after a full respray in Ford white - hadnt even had time to get any dust into the arches. Might get a few pics of the car into the Fast and Modified magazine that sells up here in Scotland and certainly drew lots of attention throughout the day. Anyone else tried shoving their Monaro's into these type of events? Been beaten by anything worse than a XR2?
I got beaten off the lights by a hearse once when I had the beemer, I still get ribbed about it. The 2 guys in it didn't even crack a smile, it must be the ultimate sleeper. In my defence it was based on a Cosworth Scorpio though...
That's hilarious, I'd love to have my "last ride" in a hearse that took on other cars at the lights. LOL.
I had one of the last of the 2.8 Cologne engined Granada's. It was surprisingly fast, especially off the line, so I'm not surprised.
In the HSV, I got beaten from the lights in a 20m sprint from dual to single carriageway, in the wet by a Diesel Golf!
I often beat much more powerful cars in sprints upto 30mph in the Smart, actually really upsets some people, great fun.

Won't bore you with all my smart experiences but it is better overtaking in said car than a Holden for the look of disgust on the other drivers face, especially when they are Merc/BMW owners, not had a Monaro yet, it would have to be in traffic of course.
A good friend of mine recently overtook a Lambo at over 100 MPH on a certain event to the absolute amazement of the driver which has promted a livery change for his smart

got massively embarrassed in my BMW330i by a focus, the sportiest version, a couple of months ago...and again a couple of days later by some vauxhall astra VXR.....
i'm untypical enough of your stereotype BMW driver to admit it, but at the time i was very very upset, in fact on the astra occasion i almost stopped at the next parking space to check if i'd actually wet myself
it was a terrible day

I know the feeling, there's a whole subculture of hot hatches that go faster than they have any right to. Recently in Autocar there was an article that put a Renault Megane R26 up against a Porsche 911 because it would have spanked/been a match for anything less. Those Leon Cupras are pretty rapid too!
I used to have a mint 1.6 Laser Capri.
Was at a big car show in Bury or Blackburn or Bolton (long time agao so dont remember) visiting friends at the capri stand. My car was parked up but not entered into anything as I was only popping in for a few mins.
Anyway the judges came over to look at the cars whilst I was getting a hot dog and it came 2nd best capri at the show much to the annoyance of those that had bothered to clean their cars for the comp.

Watch those hot hatches boy`s. Had an Astra VXR loaner while the `ro` was in for some work, they`re seriously quick ( not fast) keep your wits about you cos if they get the drop on you i`m guessing it could well be `egg on the face time`.
Youre absolutely right. VXR seems unbelievable, love to try one, bet the shove in the back is way beyond what my 330i can deliver and bet midrange is at least par with M3. ALso bet you embarrassed a few pricier car owners. Believe they can be made even more 'hot' easily too. Might have to sell the BM to my girlfriend (she's the real car snob) and retain rights to drive it of course, then buy the VXR for speed kickswantmorepower said:

As I said twas a loner while the `ro` was bein tweaked, mrs cj rancied one so we arranged for a loaner. All was well untill mid apex I spied a button marked speed and pressed it. Things got rather exciting and mrs cj decided that she`d rather have a monaro.

Absolutely. Obviously it was not some modest Focus but the 2.5 turbo thing, maybe even tuned (i like to think)...suspect that even untuned it has much stronger mid range tho
I do the same to many fast cars in my 1998 V70R AWD... Guess where the 2.5 5-cyl in that Focus comes from..?!

I had an enthusiastic session with one of time not so long ago (pre Wortec). I was gob smacked at how it stuck to by rear end with ease. I was giving it beans out of the roundabouts with a slightly wobbly rear and he was glued to the road.

Focus or Volvo? I'm guessing Volvo... Just about to fit 330mm discs to the front of my Ovlov with nice big Brembo Porsche 993 Carerra 4 calipers. Muhahaa!
