My son has a supercharged Monaro VXR, he was driving it yesterday and it started running badly, not sure of the specifics other than it wouldn’t pull and something about the electrics, think the traction control was lighting up, will get some more details.

Been rock solid for a year, first issue he has had, I am thinking a sensor has gone down or something like that.

Anyone got any ideas ?

Think he is booking it in with MWP but want to see if there is anything we can try, it’s going in for a service and check over anyway but would be good to sort this beforehand.

A little bit vague really.
But with you saying it wouldn't pull and the traction control is/was showing that would make sense. Does switching the T/C off resolve the power problem?
From what I've read over the years, the traction control is very much part of the ABS system, maybe having a problem with a rear ABS sensor?

Yeah, didn’t know much, he has put a code reader on it

PO315, PO335, PO336, all related to the crank position sensor.

So will order one, what are they like to change, any tips ?

They are a bit awkward to get to, as it's behind the starter motor.

The starter motor isn't overly difficult to remove, 2 vertically oriented bolts that are accessible directly from below.

There will inevitably be pictures of them somewhere in my build thread, I'll see if I can find some.

Personally the TC flashing makes me think voltage, potentially ancient battery (there is a LOT of heat in a supercharged engine bay), but worth checking are the various grounds.

In order of importance, there's the actual battery terminal, there's the main culprit of dodgy grounds that is behind the battery (on the driver's side inner arch), there's one on the bracket for the ABS module (may be harder to get to if there's a reservoir in the way from the blower), then just for the sake of it there's one on the driver's side engine mount, the front of the driver's side cylinder head (I think) and one of the back of the passenger side cylinder head.

f he gets "reduced power" or words to that effect, absolutely zero throttle response and won't rev, and it can come and go with an engine restart, the throttle body could well be on its way. LS3 throttle is a direct replacement, you cannot get the LS2 ones any more.

Cheers,

Got back off holiday and went round today and we, well he mainly changed the sensor, suggest he changes the battery it was the correct one, bit fiddly but managed.

It fired up straight away, it ran rough and stopped, but then restarted and it settled down, still getting a message about it needing to relearn the crankshaft variation and that wont clear, the other two sensor A Range/Voltage codes cleared ok

Will suggest he changes the battery as well, but we need to find how to do this re-learn, he has rang a garage locally but I was wondering if Op-COM will do it, I have a lead in the garage.
