What is it with drivers of HSV's in this country??? I've followed the trend and purchased a SMART car as a second car for local running around. No plans to trick it up as it's destined for trips to the shops and lets face it.. its a shopping trolley with windows! Cool car though.. very happy with my purchase; £2.5K 2000 "Passion" model (all the xtras) with only 17,000 on the clock. GTS Coupe & SMART car now that just about covers the spectrum I think!

Welcome to the Club. My Smart has wider 15" Wheels & a K&N filter, that's it. Was going to get it Re-mapped but never got round to it. Mines a 2003 model which has the 100cc bigger motor than earlier models.
The wheels do make a huge difference at speed, much more stability. But there are some fast roads on the regular 40 mile journey to my office so it was worth it. If all I did was drive it in town, I might not have bothered.
Great little cars, much much better than people would imagine, I really enjoy driving it.
Will's your Smart man though, his cars are awesome & I would imagine truly fast.

Well I had my smart up to 125 mph, was tailgating an Audi S3 at the time, so close that I could see the driver in his RV mirror, on the way back 110 mph was the max, I claim both mine are good for 100 mph, the Mk 7 that Tom has with the speed limiter removed will be good for 100 mph anyway so a remap is not that necessary but the wheels, tyres, spoilers, brakes are important regarding stability & driveability.

I would not claim they are just for shopping as one of mine has covered 120,000 miles and was used to do a weekly w/e trip to the Hague and back, average cruising speed of 95 mph. ukhsv led the way once to Abbey, obviously he pulled away from me every time but he did remark that I always reappeared in his RV mirror, I still reckon in town I could outpace any Holden/HSV, I did Amsterdam to Calais once in 3 hours, never done it that quick in the HSV before even with 150 mph+ stints!

Bold claims but I enjoy my smart as much as the HSV.So I make that three households with a smart & an HSV on the drive now - cool

What does Sussan think of her smart?

Will, as you mentioned once before, the HSV/Smart owners would make an amusing article for a motoring magazine. Know any journalists?
People are always amazed that @ 6ft7" I can drive a Smart, until I let them sit in the car & they can experience how much room there is inside, a real Tardis!
I swapped my BMW bike for the Smart & haven't looked back.

Sooze loves it! We have only driven it a couple of times when deciding to buy.. we collect this one on Saturday from Market Harborough (nth of Northhampton)

One thing that I'm pissed off about though is trying to insure a second car (for me) they don't recognise my no claims history & long/perfect driving record.. it's just mental that I have to pay full whack to insure a £3000 car! (about £350!!!!) How stupid ids the concept that yr no claims history can only be used on one car!!

I know how frustrating that is as I have 3 seperate insurance policies and have to 'build' up a NCD on each policy.

Hope you both enjoy the smart, enjoy being the key word, need any technical or general advise then please contact me as I think I just about know every business/trader/enthusiast in Europe!

My wife has three cars on one overall policy with Footman James, who do take the NCB etc. into account. Very reasonable rates as well as great services, even made a claim when I dropped the Smarts tailgate onto the bonnet of a mates new Mini & the premium didn't go up at all!
The HSV isn't included, because I want to stay with Norwich Union for that.
