VXR - do owners think it's worth the extra over the std car?
Discussion
When I was buying I seriously considered the 05 VXR, Greens had (have) one in stock but then they offered such a blinding deal on a new 04 car (£24k) that I went for that and osetensibly saved myself £14000.
The VXR is undoubtedly a better looking car and goes a reasonable bit quicker than my 04 in stock trims, but then I've now got a Wortec Sportpac on mine and the performance is virtually the same.
Anyway, what made the VXR/HSV owners go for that, given that it's £8k more (when comparing 05 list prices) than the standard car?
Just a curious sort of discussion provoking question really, no hidden agenda.

The additional styling bits did it for me, along with the LS2 power plant.
IMHO, the std Monora seemed to lack something at the back end which the VXR wing seemed fullfil...however I do prefer the single exhaust tips over the twins
Agreed, it's a lot of extra money for not a lot more but the additional sytling seemed to give it the little extra va va voom (to quote another less desiriable manufacturer)
Was it worth it.....propbably not...but I just couldn't resist it and I'd probably do it again.

Nige, it was a pretty simple decision to make to be honest.
I drove a few different cars, the CV8, the previous VXR and the new one. I could have saved myself a small fortune as well but there was something about the new VXR that clinched it for me, not necessarily in terms of added performance but more in the way of handling, to me I felt more in control of the car than I did with the other two cars. Yes there is a small difference in terms of performance, but is not a huge difference.
Am pleased with what I have bought and will be smiling twice as big once I have had the initial firt mods done, basically the catback exhaust, remap and ripper.

I chose an 05 cv8 monaro because i prefered the styling over the vxr, particularly at the front. I also thought it looked a bit plain without a rear wing, so i ordered it with and think it looks the beesknees. As do a lot of other people wherever i go!
The fact that there will be far fewer 05 cv8 compared to vxr's clinched it for me.
They are all great cars and good value for money but the fact that buying one introduced me to this forum, and more importantly meeting other like minded individuals, just adds even more to the ownership experience.
Which in my mind is priceless.
Happy motoring.
