Took the Maloo to WRC yesterday for a dyno run. The car is quite a missile so expected a 500 + result .
I think its running 6-7psi(Brian?) and the final run gave 533hp and 490lb ft , which was nice. The conversion just makes a good car even more spectacular and given the brief of making it a driveable car with bursts of supercar like power its spot and so we can recommend getting blown...)

Now the educational bit for us was when I tucked the intake temp probe under my armpit and we artifically raised the temp from 11 deg to just over 36. On that run we suddenly gained 35 horsepower.. ! I'm sure the experts on here will tell you why but it did seem v bizarre.

Once I figure how to post a pic I'll show the proper run and the 'armpit' run. At some stage in the new year all the boosted cars ought to get together to do a run on same day same dyno so anyone else who fancies spending quite a wedge knows what they're getting into. Now wheres that other pulley Brian ?

So thanks to Brian and Paul for the conversion, great job , and thanks to WRC for the dyno(nice 996 btw Dougie is still dribbling) .

I'm now charging £30 per hour + coffee for use of my armpit for guaranteed pub power boosts.

Fully understand Stu, mine had a cracked lead to the sensor so the poor ECU thought it was -37 Deg C all the time & I LOST about 100 brake!

ukhsv soon sorted that one out...

Intrigued now......

Does that mean that if the probe on the dyno reads higher temp, then the dyno back calculates and adds horse power to the final figure, making an overstated final result ?

Is this the diff between IT and AT on dyno dynamics sheet ?

Ideally on a DD rolling road, in a purpose built, temp controlled dyno cell, the AT and IT should be the same should you have the correct air flow. If the IT is higher a correction factor is applied by the software. An accepted "norm" is that IT is no more than 5 degrees higher than AT. So the correction for this is negligable.

A few factors influence the IT. Actual positioning of probe--is it in the airstream ? Is it in a hotspot or low air flow area. ? Should it be after the throttle body ? [ideal if you have a while to set it up and only ever work on the same make/model of car]etc but I can see no merit in any one deliberately setting out to inflate BHP by increasing IT, as the internet provides no hiding place from such an attempt. If this happens it is usually a genuine error.

This could rage on a while but the goal is no more than IT of +5 over AT

Regards

Allan

Stu, I'd be up for a S/Charged meet next year.
LSV have S/C'd quite a few Monaro's now, but sadly the owners are not contributors to this forum.
I'd love to see more people going down the S/C route. With a "conservative" amount of boost & power as per the Maloo, the cars are just so user friendly, happy to just potter about or seriously upset the drivers of exotica costing many times more.
For me (fingers crossed) reliability has been well proved, which I hope will reassure others thinking of S/Cing.

Count me in - would be good to see similar conversions on other models. Any idea of a location yet?

Hi Tiler,
I only get up there about once a year & can only comment on the work they do on my cars, which has always been excellent, so I can't answer your question.
Tell you what, I've got to book my car in to LSV, so I'll ask them for you if you like.
I've seen some powerful Monaro's (not Vauxhall) there.
I think V8 HSV saw a nice one there recently as well.
Anyone any idea how many S/C 4 doors there are?
I think LSV did a few of those as well.
