I have my first trackday booked at Bedford on Saturday. I was going to take the Libra but am now thinking of taking the GTSR.

I have a couple of questions:

1. I have read somewhere that they don't permit motorcycle helmets because although they may be ACU gold approved, they are not approved for car racing, does anyone know if this is true?
2. Does anyone know what RON the unleaded Palmersport onsite fuel is????

Don't know about the helmet issue but the fuel is either 98 or 99 and is about£1.00 per litre.

Not sure what exhauset system you have byt be careful around the noise meters (4 or them on the GT circuit). After some tuition I got black flagged for noise on my first 'hot' lap. 2 strikes and you are out.

Had to back off by noise meters and not usae 2nd gear all day - luckily teh massive torque these casr produce (let alone your S/C) meant good and suprising progress cn be made.

Have fun

Fuel was £1.00 per litre when I went.

Motorcycle helmet ok so long as it is ACU approved (although they never even checked it on the day).

Noise, I got kicked off track after tripping the meters twice despite best efforts to avoid them.

Great track though. loads of run off so can really enjoy the car.

I was ok at Bedford on the 19th Jan. Have a Monaro with capa headers, exhaust & no cats, I drove slowly on the approach road up to the noise test and they didn't bother testing me (they did test a few tvrs & caterhams) Its a very fast & safe track, proper brakes are essential. My front tyres took more wear than the rears.

My ex car will pass noise test easy if same system as only makes 94 decibels on trackday meters. Its the blower that makes the beautiful noise.

GSE - I passed the static test but the noise meters of which there are 4 dotted around the track were triggered.

Pomona - The problem with Bedford is that I was at 95 decibels and they said that was several over with limit in the mid to high 80's. I understand from Caspy that as an RMA ? track day the limit is about 100.

I was really not very happy afterwards especxially as there were Radicals Ultima's, 911 GT3 with sports exhausts etc etc. Could not understand it?

My reply to these noise tests is go to a circuit who test you static and abide by soundings.Circuits that are challenging,ie Castle Combe,Goodwood, will give immense satisfaction to your ability, especially when you see tyre barriers and not acres of gravel or grass. Just my opinion.

i just want one

I have heard from a lot of people who deliberately ease off at the relevant points around the circuit at Bedford. I would have thought that would be pretty irritating..

Brian, gently does it for me - first trackday ever so I think Bedford makes sense.

I reckon its a good one to really get to know the car and how to handle without the risk of smashing it into barriers.

I had a ball despite teh noise issue and apart from the second longest straight it did not cause to much interference, the main straight is free from noise meters so you can really go for it there.

Really shocked a few M3/911/evo/STI owners especially when I old them I was not using second gear and backing off in places...

That beastie should really raise some eyebrows.

Best of Luck its a blast.
