Bit quiet in here lately innit?
Discussion
Probably something to do with the fact that when someone starts a mildly interesting thread about mods/dyno numbers/cosmetics, it ends up in a big war between the various vendors and companies, and us poor customers can't get a word in without having abuse hurled at us about how little we know about our cars and their engines. (I say us as a collective term, not me personally). As well as this, people seem to take anyone who disagrees with their point to be personally insulting them which isn't very endearing to free, open forum.
Probably just human nature to be competitive.
Mind you some things that seem argumentative are intended to be informative. Id agree that if people cant make constructive comments, its best not to make any.
Still Id like to think everyone wants to learn and would like to think I can help in some small way occasionally. Power to the people.

Tiler, from what I've read it is. You may need to change your heads to lower the compression ratio, then get a smaller pulley to up the boost to ~9psi+ and get a cam specifically desinged for supercharged applications, you could see 40rwhp just from getting a S/C cam alone. Of course, you'll probably need hardened push rods, titanium retainers and valve springs for safety.
Re the 161MPH, the American GTO's were limited to 160, maybe the monaros were as well, its just no-ones pushed it hard enough to find out?

OK without wishing to get anyone into trouble what are the top speeds that have been achieved with the varisous range of mods out there?
Always intrigued me as you up the ante on bhp/torque how much extra you really need to make discernable differences (i.e. in current state you can T**t a standard 911 but what would you need to see off a Turbo?) as you increase performance especially in the zones some of the memebers are probably in, before good ole physics gets in the way!
Anyone broken 200mph for instance?

For top speed gearing will come into it.
If you want 600 from a stock engine by all accounts your rods will need uprated bolts too.
I got 155mph from my old camaro.
Just remember the additional power required to push the car faster is equal to the square of the velocity, its a geometric progression.
I think Id prefer to have gearing for acceleration to legal speeds. Last time I knew going sideways wasnt necessarily illegal.
They have just made spinning the tyres illegal in NZ.

Ok then. is 600 bhp possible from a standered block.
And just watch your speedo and see if you can go faster than
161mph. I DONT THINK SO!!!!!!!!!
Thinks its something to do with a km to miles calibration issue, but none will go over 161. GPS bits obviously will.
Again from memory, top speed in 5th is about 180 with std diff and gear set on 04 VXR, not worked out on any other.

Just a thought - but didn't one of the motoring mags (Top Gear??)
do a comparison between a 6.0 VXR and a Lotus Carlton and get the Roo over 180mph??
As for various companies coming on - I have found the input (though at times well above my head )really usefull - that is down to everyone on this site, I have learned loads, and am having some upgrades done by Rodger at Monkfish on Tuesday. Without all the 'sparring' maybe I would have been much more in the dark!
The best example of this was knowing that alot of people who had upgrades done to thier cars paid only a nominal amount extra for insurance ( not the 40% extra my insurer wanted ), that then gave me the confidence to let them know I was cancelling my policy for pastures new!
So thankyou to one and all!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone!
I'm new to the forum and have to say I totally agree with featherfoot as I'm currently looking to get a monaro but in lefthand drive for Luxembourg and wouldn't know where to start without some of the threads I've seen on here.
Be prepared for lots of questions, some which may open previous topics, but the view points are well appreciated.
Thanks

If you want a LHD 4 door, you can buy one from one of the Arab states as mentioned. I also believe they sell them in Asia, in fact I saw a V6 Statesman in Shanghai at the airport. No V8 model though. Also Sth America have LHD models. SA get RHD like us, but get the SS and other models etc. Called Chevy Lumina (SS)

No need to over rev to make power so long as you can use extra boost safely.
