If you didn't have your Vauxhall/Holden/HSV...

I couldn't afford any of the cars mentioned new, maybe the 350Z, that would be about it!
Just as a comparison with UK prices for all the cars mentioned. These are RRP from www.carsales.com.au
Mustang (Import only) = $115,000
NISSAN 350Z Z33 TOURING = $62,990
(Bit ironic these two as one of the local mags here has just done a test with these 2 and the monaro!)
JAGUAR XJ SUPER V8 X350 = $269,000 < Not sure that is the right one!
Can't get the RS4 or RS6 here, maybe secondhand.
AUDI S4 B7 = $131,200
Corvette 2000 model(import only) = $100,000 approx
BMW 330i E90 = $98,000
A few others!
BMW M5 E60 = $229,400
BMW M3 E46= $140,000
Jaguar S-Type R = $169,990
For info
VZ SS ute (Cheapest Holden V8, 6.0 litre now
= $41,490
VZ SV8 6.0l sedan = $44,490
VZ Maloo = $54,990
VZ Clubsport = $62,590
Ford XR8 Ute = $41,595
Ford XR6 Turbo = $46,405
FPV Typhoon (turbo 6) = $59,810
FPV GT V8 = $62,210
With the prices on the bottom few, I guess we can't really complain about the prices of the Euros and the Japanese cars. We still have the choice of the loacl manufacturers. If I didn't have a Vauxhall,Holden or HSV....probably have to be an EVO9 or go "Blue"!! FPV Tornado Turbo 6 ute with a 6 speed Auto would do.

I know I'd be depressed if "The General" had nothing on offer, but no way could I go down the blue oval path, no matter how many anti-depressents I was taking!
I know they have improved their Oz offering lately but still...
"Found On Rubbish Dumps"
"Fix Or Repair Daily"
"Fu*ked On Rainy Days"
The C6 vette would be my V8 choice otherwise I'd be swapping 2 cylinders for 2 turbos and getting a M12 GTO Noble or a GTR "Godzilla".
A decent 1 year old version of any of these would be in my comparable budget to what I'd spend on similar vintage HSV or Monaro with mods.
Can't see myself ever getting a clit car.... gotta be relatively rare for my liking.

Got to be asked but what is a clit car? is it a spelling mistake or does he mean...............!!!!!!!!!!!
Back to the thread I would have gone the XKR route that is untill the Challenger gets built, then i do not know what will happen.

I actually drove a Jag S type sport as well for a weekend and really liked it.
Lots of grunt, excellent handling, brakes & comfort & so so quiet in the cabin.![]()
Such a shame it is so hugleh with the old mans image it has (mind you...)
I had an S Type Sport before the Monaro. It was very smooth but slightly sloppy on corners - not like the Monaro. As for image, maybe it is an old mans car but plenty of young women gave it a second glance in the passing. Perhaps it was the handsome chap behind the wheel

I was looking at either the 350Z - girlfriends choice, or the Mitsubishi Evo 8 series. Contact with Mitsubishi dealership was twisting my arm with special offers every other week on cars and finance. Glad I resisted and waited for the Monaro now as most Evo's I see are driven by @%$@£@^@$£ (insert expletive of choice).
I looked at Jag Stype R (6-12 months old) but as had been said- great car - but interior more than a touch old timer
Also an Audi S4 (thought 4 wheel drive would be usefull on North York Moors - Teesside Audi thought I was not suitable for a test drive??????????????????But I was allowed to buy one as long as I took the estate they had in stock (also had demo car)oh and paid full price!
No?? Well what about a 3.2 TT sir??? F**k off!!!!!
Had decided to buy a V8 - and had considered a Monaro since seeing it on Top Gear - Who said Clarkson had no influence?

I suspect Clarkson sold more Monaro's than Vauxhall marketing dept.
Nothing like hearing from somebody who trials every latest release for a living.
Clarkson's first review in his Sunday Times column of the early 5.0 Holden engined HSV, the red one, made me decide that I must have an HSV. By the time I got it together to get one, the 5.7 LS1 was being used :-)
I'd go back to TVRs if I only needed the 2 seats.
Other 4 seater considerations when we moved from the Cerb to the Monaro were....
Mazzer 3200GT.....But just as expensive to run as the Cerb
M5.....Can't get past that image thing
RS6.....Couldn't afford one
1967 Mustang fastback.....Mrs Rocket was errrr, not in favour
All quite different cars really.
