Hi All,

I've been looking at a silver VXR at Frosts in Haywards Heath (KE05 EHO).

They've said it was owned by Vauxhall previously and that it was never abused like its sister car.

I've searched the internet and can only find one 'road test' by a journalist who never mentions tracks or burning rubber. But I have found loads of sites with pictures of the sister ship going sideways.

Does anyone have any info or advice??

Cheers

That one was used in TG, same as the KE54 one in London (and in Heaven and Hell).

I'm in the same boat - they are good money - but are they going to fall to bits in 3 months? Eat the clutch on the way home?

I dunno! Can't really beat that sort of car for the money though.

I need to sort myself ASAP really...

How do you know that KE05 EHO was in TG?????

I can't find anything on the internet about it - but I can find the sister car (one letter out on the VRN).

I just checked (video.google.com) and the TG cars were KE54 FDY and KE05 EHN - so that's my bad, sorry - it's bloody close though! Both 6.0 VXRs...
The 5.7 was KE54 FAA

Yes, that was the Sister car...... Thanks for looking.

Anyone have any further info on KE05 EHO??

Do you think Vauxhall would offer up any info if I rang them? Or would they deny all knowledge?

I looked at a sliver VXR at Frosts(HH) back in October...had really smacked up wheels...Not sure Frosts are authorised VXR retailers, they weren't when I was looking and thats why I ended up at Lance Owen

It depends on if you can find the right person to talk to... I haven't had much luck. I just get told it's had it's 114 point check and is fine - plus the London car has a top-up warranty that covers the clutch. So... it should be fine. I just have bad luck with cars, and I'm a bit worried it'll let me down.

Phone.. it certainly can't hurt to. Maybe if the whole press car thing turns people away, you could bargain?

Two ways of looking at this. 1; the car will be under warranty for the next 2 years so either way, not too much of a risk if you do some homework. 2; If your at all uncomfortable, spend a little bit more, there's plenty of others out there?

Frosts are not authorised Monaro retailers.

The cars are pretty well looked after, they have their sideways moments, but are always returned to the workshop after each 'outing' to ensure everything is as it should be (these are and were an advert for the brand and as such were always meticulously prepped). We have had a number of ex-PR cars and they have all proved very well prepared etc.

The only thing i would suggest is looked at are the wheels as BO55 said. They often get a nick and are refurbed off colour. There are specialists who can get an almost exact match now, so negotiate if they dont come up to scratch. Take a long test drive, if there appear to be any anomolies, ask them to be resolved prior to purchase. (basic stuff i know)

SJC is right in that the warranty is there for two years more minimum, and if it is under network q the clutch is covered also, as are the brakes.

My only word of caution (and i would say this), if you are buying from a non-monaro retailer then getting the prepped or sorted under warranty comes protracted as the car has to go to aMonaro retailer repairs etc. There can also be a lack of knowledge of 'known issues' that can also make life difficult ahould the worst happen.

IMHO these cars are a huge bargain, snap em up while they are there, i honestly beleive that they will dry up very soon and as demand increases prices will stabilise.

Cheers Caspy..... a very informative reply.

The wheels are a bit messy, but they're being sorted before pick-up. As for any faults, then as you said, it's got Network Q and 2 years left on the waranty - hopefully won't need it! I drive like an old man anyway.

Looks like I'm the newist VXR owner on the block! Silver 05 VXR..... Can't wait!

I bought my car from Frosts in November 05(silver 05 CV8). It was a demonstrator with very low milage-less than 400. I have no hesitation in recommending them. The car came with nearly a full tank of fuel and a complimentary bottle of champagne. I have been buying new (or ex-demonstrator) cars since 1983, and I've never had this service before!
Before I bought mine, I had phoned every Monaro dealer in the country looking for what I wanted, and I really found Frosts by mistake. I was confident that when I bought it it was the best value car for me in the country.
This is the first time that I have contributed to this site, although I have read it on a regular basis. Like many other contributors to this forum, I too have weakened, and had my car remapped and a loud Wortec exhaust fitted.....awesome!Thanks go to Monkfish for their service in fitting this.

Is this right Caspy? I've just had mine serviced by Lance Owen who tried to extract £75 off me to adjust the handbrake! I told them that it is exactly how it was when I bought it, and it works perfectly well. Needless to say I stopped them from doing it, are they trying to rip me off

Difficult for me to comment on an individual case, but, adjustments are not covered. However, the handbrakes should self adjust. If they not there maybe prob with adjusters, and they should be covered.
