Did you ship your Holden to the UK?
Discussion
Looking to find out if anyone on this forum has had the experience of shipping their pride and joy from Aus or NZ to the UK and put it on the road.
Also if anyone has just wanted their car here for a couple of years (temporary import)and to take it back again.
How did you go with the SVA testing and getting it registered and on the road?
Cheers

Hi headhoon,
I imported my Clubsport last year and have had no problems so far. As long as you can show ownership of the car for greater than 12 months prior to UK arrival date it will be classified as a personal import. On arrival UK customs people will inspect and issue you a form C&E388 (importing carrier did this for me), which shows that you are exempt from import duty and vat, and that you are restricted from selling the car for 12 months from import date (if you do then you will be reqd to pay the import duty and vat). This form is to be presented to the DVLA when (or if) you have the SVA done. If the car is older than 3 years on arrival in UK then an MOT test is reqd before you can drive it, under 3 years - not required. You can legally drive a foreign registered car for 6 months as long as you have insurance cover ( I understand that this 6 mth period will reset to zero and restart if the car leaves the country and then returns). My car arrived in Nov'05 with the C&E388 form, it is under 3 yr old - no MOT reqd, I had it insured using oz rego no. and VIN no. (had to shop around to find an insurer that would do this - I used NATWEST. I have been driving it ever since, with no probs, have even had coppers looking at and/or follow the car with confused looks on their faces, but have not been pulled over.
