Bloody thing!
I am constantly getting static shocks of the car.

Doesn't matter what clothing I wear, what footwear, where I am or where I go.
Every time I touch the damn thing I get a shock.
Sometimes the shock is bloody big, people have been known to hear the crack of it a few yards away!

And yet we have 2 other cars and they don't shock me at all and I am not especially prone to them elsewhere.
What the hell is going on?

It's starting to get to the stage where I am a little reluctant to go near the car 'cos of this issue.

What can I do or even my blessed Vauxhall dealer do to help?

been noticing them again from mine lately too.. me thinks it's worse in cold, dry conditions; no moisture in the air to take the static away.

Embarrassing I know but I am always wary now after getting a static zap in the nipple of all places!! LOL it Fu**in killed!!! Parked in a tight space at my home in Oz, used to open the door & sqeeze passed & the old chest would brush the door edge & zzzzzzap!! Make the eyes water now just thinkin about it!

Gotta laugh now though!

If you touch the car with your knuckle first it won't hurt or hang a thin strip or rubber from the chassis to the ground and the static won't build up.

Getting in the car is no problem at all, but getting out is another story.

Open door, earth yourself against the floor and door sill, small shock to calf muscle. Close door by pushing glass. Works every time.

I get more shocks in the house than I do from the car.

Hold the metal part of your key and tap it against the body first, that takes the sting away.

Try this - it works for me every time:

Open the door to get out, put your right hand on the a-pillar section of the drivers door and KEEP HOLD of it until you have swung both your legs out and have one or both feet on the ground. I *think* it earths you via your feet whilst you already have conatct with the car - so no shock.

I get this, I open the door and hold the top of the door fram as I get out. Any static seems to flow away without shock. As for getting in, I go up and flick the car before I try to get in, your are minding your bruised finger rather than the shock then

I remember a while back, my 99 Camaro was recalled 'cause static discharges were triggering the airbag system.

Theoretically, you shouldnt ever get a shock while getting into the car, only when getting out.

I wish someone would tell my car about the laws of physics then.
