I have the yr 2000 HSV GTS (#18) and have just had to change the rear reflector panel ( the piece that goes across the boot lid behind the rear number plate and includes the reversing lights). There are also apertures in ht65is piece for I guess rear fog lights but no bulbs/wiring was there!! On the LH dash is a button for the rear fog lights with a LED on the RH side that illuminates when the button is pressed. My problem is that this is the only light that comes on....nothing lights up at the rear of the car! its OK for me to see in the fog but difficult for anyone following me....where the hell are the rear fog lights?

I am not aware of there being any rear fog lights on there i have the same thing the foglight button is for the front driving lights on mine the red light on the boot a part of the brake lights so you would hav eto remove them and maybe out LED bulbs in there and run another switch tothe dash i may be wrong and stand to be corrected.
Hope it helps a bit

Did you test it with the head lights on? (not on beam)

yep, tested it with lights on full and dip..still nothing!

there two switches, one for the front fogs (works) with a "proper" icon in the cluster and another for the rears with a LED on the RH side of the dash , looks like a UK special to me.

The light on the rear spoiler comes on with the brakes.

when fitting the new reflector there was a lightweight pair of wires going to the small plastic piece right at the bottom of the boot lid, the piece with the "250 LS1" badge stuck on it..wondering if this is the fog light...there is a thin red pice sunk into this plastic trim part but it looks awful small for a rear fog light and doesn't light up when the switch is on :-(

the fog light is the thin red plastic lense which is cut into the lower part of the boot lid (under the reflector).........they were put in for UK cars and have proven to be of a very low quality..........

If "Island Boy HSV" looks in he will be able to help with a new one.......

That'll be it then. Has anyone upgraded and used the "spare" lamp fittings in the main reflector piece? it look as if they are intended to be used for this purpose, perhaps on the standard Commodore.

I belive Roger at monkfish has done a GTS incorporating use of light cluster on boot believe he changed out one of reversing lamps? not 100% sure give him a call also not sure but there may be legalities attaining to position of rear fog light in relation to other lights or heights?.
I changed light bar on bottom of boot, couldn't find listing on internet of part number and unit definately doesn't look automotive. Anyone know exactly what and where to get them from?

HSV's up to build number 10 or 11 have one of the reversing lights converted into a fog lamp........they are not very good!!

A good upgrade is to use high output LED's mounted behind the reflector......

something like this www.ultraleds.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=54&products_id=990 (I know this is a blue one but you get the idea)

I like the idea of super power LED's fitted into the exisitng (unused) lamps in the reflector. I am sure it would work well and not fail any MOT for not being in the "right position". Guess I just use the existing wiring to the failed array and White LEDs.
Thanks for the help guys

been surfing the parts catalogue (sad I know) and there seems to be a loom extension which has fittings to go into the spare holes......... part number 92140403

I might get a couple over and see if they work..........I will report back.

That sounds better than using the LED fix. BTY On the back of the reflector panel it rates the bulbs for these fittings as 12V 5W. Is 5W enough for UK fog lights? Anyway, can you order me one up as well? If you let me know the cost I'll put a cheque in the post.

Not all.............one of my Holdens is UK GTS number 6. It did not have one of the reversing lights converted, it had a Halfords special hanging under the rear PU! I converted one of the reversing lights myself and it is fine.

I am thinking about using the two "extra" lamp fittings above the reversing lights that are located in the large reflector panel . They are designed to take lamp fittings that are rated at 12V/5w and look about the same physical size as the number plate lamp holders. If there is a standard part for the wiring loom thats my preferred solution. I guess on the earlier GTS's they were looking for a neat solution to meet the SVA rules, the Halfords fix seems a bit of a bodge really and its a shame to have one of the reversing lights changed.

what is the PU?

Sorry Steve, I meant bumper. Use 'proper' terms from my racing days when I had to change things like that regularly

Polyurethane (PolyUrethane), ie what they are (normally) made from.
