F1 Grand Prix's these days are boring. Going to see the real thing and paying £200 plus for the privilege is just taking the p1ss.

Massive traffic queues, expensive food and no idea who's winning losing.

I'd rather watch it on the TV and save the £200.

Any other opinions??

110% agree. Prefer real racing like Touring Cars, 24 Hour events, Bike GPs and Superbikes etc

F1 gets the thumbs up here. This season has been fantastic with Renault and Ferrari fighting it out, it did get boring when Ferrari kept winning (although being a ferrari fan I didn't mind too much hehehe) and I must admit I only followed last season casually as it just seemed the to be the same with another team (Renault for the most part and then Mclaren with no real racing) but this season IMO is much better with Alonso, Shumacher and even Button fighting it out. I also like the new format of qualifying, makes for some interesting racing and forces the drivers to really go for it. Anyone who says there is no skill in it blatantly either doesn't watch Formula 1 or is jealous because to see Shumacher threading his car through chicanes at outrageous speeds is simply mindblowing when viewed from the onboard camera. Most people also forget the immense physical strain on the drivers - they are some of the fittest men in the world as demonstrated on 5th Gear when Tiff Needel got out of an F1 car having done a few laps absolutly exhausted.

Never been to a F1 GP, but I do get to go the the Toyota Panasonic test days at Silverstone through work, and that is simply stunning. You get to talk to the drivers, techs etc which gives an insight into just how complex and staggeringly expensive it all is. As for racing, Touring cars, MotoGP and club racing like the MG CC Silverstone race day (The V8s are awesome!) is more my cup of tea. Real racing with real people - far more exciting IMHO. Theres summat for everyone i guess.

Exactly my point Dan.... I'd rather watch it at home on my big TV with surround sound, listen to the commentary and actually see who is in the lead.

Going to the circuit is great... once.... £200 plus for tickets is just too much. Berny, you ripoff bar steward!

Agreed!! Me and the missus did it last year at Silverstone! Great experience, awesome sound etc, but it was a bloody expensive weekend, about a grand in total including accomodation (if you can find it).

Would much prefer to watch it at home, but the TV never really gets used, just keep forgetting it exists!

Ok well put it this way, if you don't want your tickets I'll have 'em! I've only being once to qualifying when I was about 9 and I was absolutely astounded, one of those things you never forget. I know why you guys prefer the TV - you're all too old!

Even though I am going on Sunday, it will be first one. I agree with the coverage on TV with the sound and commentry etc. But, have always had my F1 fix at Goodwood Festival of Speed. I know its only one car at a time, but the sound is awsome. And the closeness to the action I am sure makes up for it. Standing next to one of these things as they revs th e bits of it. Makes hairs and the back of your neck stand up.

Will really enjoy my day am sure, but think Goodwood will always be prefered.

Ok, time to P*ss people off. I've been watching F1's for years on TV with a Sunday newspaper, and have always wanted to go to at least one, so when a mate of mine offerred me a free VIP pass to go with him this Sunday with pit lane seats and backstage parking (going with the Quo crew who are playing at the aftershow party) I couldn't really say no. To say I'm looking forward to it is an understatement

End of gloat

Caspy, I guess there will be at least 2 Monaros there then...

Going tomorrow on a staff pass from a mate who works with one oif the teams.. never been to one outside Oz but only missed 2 of the 20 or so Aussie GP's in Adelaide & Melbourne. Sunday is a great atmosphere but unless you have a corprate or VIP pass, fighting with the great unwashed for a bit of the whiplash action is a bit tough. For my money, Friday is the best day to go if you are a real motoring enthusiast - static displays are not too crowded, good support program & the current qualifying setup means you get to see every driver on his merits; plus most importantly, portaloos dont have 3 days worth of steamers in them!

heres one of my fav pics that would give a dog a bone!

Aussie gals.... GAME OVER!

I'm with you Caspy - went to F1 in france a couple of years back - an excellent weekend for the experience (and one day I'd like to get to Silverstone to)but I don't think you can beat events like Goodwood.......although some of racing I saw in New Zealand a few years ago was good - you could get much closer to the action back then than you could in the UK although I imagine by now health and safety has spoilt that too!!
